KAILUA-KONA — A North Kona resort employee is in critical condition after an accident on the property Monday afternoon.

Authorities responded to Kukio Golf and Beach Club at 12:57 p.m. Monday where they found an unconscious man, according to Hawaii Police. The 43-year-old, later identified to be an employee of the resort, had been scuba diving in a fishpond on the grounds when a coworker found him, authorities confirmed.

“We had a tragic accident involving a beloved long-term Kukio Community Association employee,” said Scott Nair, general manager of Kukio Golf and Beach Club and Community Association. “We’re hopeful for his recovery and we’re praying with the family.”

Nair added the resort is cooperating with local authorities.

Hawaii Police Maj. Robert Wagner said when police arrived on scene at Kukio the victim was unresponsive and CPR was administered. He was later taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital via ground ambulance.

At press time, the employee was still alive.

Kukio Golf and Beach Club is a private, residential equity club located adjacent to the Four Seasons Resort, Hualalai along the Kona Coast.
