KAILUA-KONA — Alternating lane closures are planned this weekend on two highways in West Hawaii.

The state Department of Transportation reports that alternative single-lane closures in both directions will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on Queen Kaahumanu Highway in the vicinity of the highway’s intersection with Kawaihae Road in South Kohala. The lane closures are necessary for road repairs.

On Kohala Mountain Road, alternating single-lane closures are planned in both directions from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday in the vicinity of Kaauhuhu Homestead and Mahukona-Niulii roads for landscaping.

Weekend work is also planned on major roadways in East Hawaii, according to the department.

Alternating single-lane closures will be in effect in both directions from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday along Highway 11 between Makalika Street and Keaau Pahoa Bypass Road (Highway 130) for shoulder work, including cutting grass.

A lane closure will also be in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday as crews work on the Pahoehoe Stream Bridge, near mile marker 6 on Highway 19, in South Hilo, for bridge maintenance work.

Another lane closure is also planned from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on Highway 19 in South Hilo, between mile markers 6.6 and 7.1, for road repairs.

In addition, a 24/7 alternating single-lane closure remains in effect in both directions in the vicinity of mile marker 30, near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, for road repairs.

The DOT said that lane closure schedules may change at any time without notice. Work is weather permitting.
