KAILUA-KONA — Two members of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs board of trustees will keep their positions with a new face coming to represent the island of Oahu.
Maui Trustee Carmen Hulu Lindsey and Trustee-At-Large John D. Waihee IV both were the top vote-getters in their respective races. Lindsey, who has represented Maui as an OHA trustee since 2012, received 118,087 votes, besting opponent Keeaumoku Kapu’s 94,862 votes in that race. Waihee, who has held his position as trustee-at-large since 2000, meanwhile won his six-way race, collecting 142,594 votes, according to state tallies.
Kalei Akaka, who won the race for Oahu resident trustee, collected 142,988 votes in that contest. She defeated Esther Kiaaina, who received 115,044 votes.
All counts are with 248 of 249 precincts reporting.
