KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 13 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Nov. 5 and Sunday.

South Hilo officers arrested five drivers while Kona officers arrested four and Puna officers arrested three, according to data released Tuesday by the Hawaii Police Department. Officers in North Kohala nabbed one motorist.

So far this year, there have been 944 DUI arrests compared with 997 during the same period last year, according to police.

Through Monday, there have been 27 deaths on Hawaii Island public roads. At this point in 2017, 29 people had lost their lives in traffic crashes.
