Kay Paik

Kay Kiyomi Jitchaku Paik, 94, of Hilo, died Oct. 21, 2018 at home. Born April 30, 1924, in Onomea, she was a retired account clerk for Hilo High School and member of Hui Okinawa and Haili Kumiai.

Friends may call at 3 p.m., Nov. 13, at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Leonard (Karen Akiyama) Paik and Gary Paik of Hilo; daughter, Marylyn (Tim) Paik-Nicely of Arcata, Calif.; sisters, Marjorie Gushiken of Hilo, Aileen (Yoshio) Kuba of Honolulu, six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Sadako Oda

Sadako “Jean” Oda, 94, of Hilo died Oct. 30, 2018, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Paauilo, she was a retired personnel manager for the County of Hawaii and a member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Bestuin.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden.

She is survived by sons, Matthew Oda of Los Angeles, California, Scott (Marlene) Oda of Hilo; six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Hatsuno Kodani

Hatsuno “Hatchan” Kodani, 102, of Hilo, died Oct. 15, 2018, at a care home in Hilo. Born April 8, 1916, in Kapehu, she was a retired housekeeper for Travelodge Hotel, child care services provider and member of Hilo Hooganji Mission.

Friends may call at 10 a.m., Nov. 16, at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by sons, Raymond (Verna Dias) Kodani, Jerry Kodani and Paul Kodani of Hilo; daughter, Faye (Joel) Oie of Hilo; brother, Satoru (Janet) Wakakuwa of Honolulu; sister, Amy Spencer of Hilo; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenichi Shimabukuro

Kenichi Shimabukuro, 93, of Hilo died Oct. 13, 2018, at the Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired supervisor for the former Mauna Kea Sugar Company and member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hui Okinawa and Waiakea Pirates.

Friends may call 8:30-10 a.m., Nov. 17, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel; funeral service at 10. Casual attire.

He is survived by sons, Dexter (Gail) Shimabukuro of Hilo, Sidney (Gayle) Shimabukuro of Hilo, Len Shimabukuro of Hilo, Jesse (Pam Cabatu) Shimabukuro of Hilo; brother, Herbert (Karen) Shimabukuro of Oahu; sisters, Hideko Kamida of Oahu, Elaine T. Oshiro of Oahu, Peggy Matsuse of Oahu, Barbara (Edgar) Tanaka of Oahu; four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose Anderson

Rose Audrey Kailiahi Kamakea Anderson, 80, of Waimea died Oct. 7, 2018, at her residence. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired head supervisor custodian at Waimea Elementary and Intermediate School, waitress at the former Edelweiss Restaurant, former housekeeper at the Ilikai Hotel and Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Waimea 2nd Ward and the Waimea Red Hat Society.

Friends may call 8-9:30 a.m. Nov. 17 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Waimea; memorial service at 10. Casual attire.

She is survived by daughter, Kaiulani Cindy Anderson Kanoa of Springville, Utah; son, Andy Keola Anderson of Waimea; brother, Leroy (Barbara) Paahao of Honolulu; 11 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren one great-great-grandson, numerous nieces and nephews.
