Phyllis McCormack

Phyllis Arline McCormack, 96, of Honokaa, died Nov. 16, 2018 at Hale Hoola Hamakua Hospital. She was born on Dec. 14, 1921 in California.

Private service to be held.

Phyllis is survived by sons, James A. McCormack of Texas, William H. McCormack of Kamuela; brother, Robert Herron of Thousand Oaks; two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Tsuyuko Shimizu

Tsuyuko Umetsu Shimizu, 89 of Hilo, died at home on Nov. 7, 2018. Born in Olaa, she worked at Alumside Products, Modern Appliance, Great Hawaiian Realty, Restaurant Fuji/Hilo Hotel, C. Brewer Data Processing and Kam Garment Factory. She was a member of Taishoji Soto Mission, Hilo Daijingu, Anela St Kumiai, Fukushima Kenjin Kai and Yamanashi Kenjin Kai.

Services were held.

She is survived by her sons, Gary (Tina) Shimizu of North Carolina and Calvin (Minda) Shimizu of Pepeekeo; daughters, Sharlene (Larry) Miyazu of Hilo and Annette (Alfred) Leung of Hilo; sisters Mitsue Hanabusa of Waianae, Yaeko (George) Fujiwara of Hilo and Ruriko (Donald) Hayashi of Kaneohe; sister-in-law Ethel (Daniel) Chang of Honolulu and Toshie Shimizu of Keaau; brother-in-law Iwao (Katherine) Shimizu of Kahaluu; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Eileen Hood

Eileen Patricia Hood, 86, of Hawi, died Nov. 3, 2018 at her residence. Born in Doty, Washington, she was a homemaker, member of the Kalahikiola Congregational Church and the Kohala Senior Citizens.

Friends may call 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Kalahikiola Congregational Church in Kapaau; a celebration of her life will begin at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at the Hawi County Cemetery. The family requests casual attire.

She is survived by son, Steven (Carol) Hood of Kapaau; sister, Arleen Lorraine Shirley of Atwater, Washington; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Patricia Heck

Patricia Ann Heck, 84, of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, died Nov. 2, 2018 at residence. Born in Port Angeles, Washington, on June 26, 1934, she was public school teacher.

No services were held.

She is survived by her stepdaughter, Connie (Lee) Forsberg of Lynwood, Washington; sister, Beverly Nelson of Edmonds, Washington; two grandchildren.

Rosita Bufil

Rosita “Aunty Rosie” “Sweetheart” Andaya Bufil, 80, Hilo died Nov. 2, 2018 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honokaa, she was a retired asset protection host and greeter for Walmart in Hilo and a former retired secretary at Alu Like, Inc. of Hilo.

Friends may visit from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel; funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Mauna Kea Memorial Park. Aloha attire is requested. Leis and flowers are welcome.

She is survived by husband, Pilagio Bufil of Hilo; daughters, Davelyn Bufil of Hilo, Abigail Bufil of California, Patricia (Eric) Bufil-Dehmer of Hilo, Francine (Randy) Bufil-Uy of California; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Floyd Chapman

Floyd “Chappy” Edgar Chapman, Jr., 79, of Keaau, HI, died Nov. 21, 2018 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, he was a truck driver for Mihara Transfer, small engine mechanic for Garden Exchange, and the DJ “Night Owl” for KPUA. He was a sergeant in the special forces of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the VFW and American Legion Post 60.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, Dec. 7, at the Homelani Crematory Chapel at 9 a.m.; a memorial gathering will take place at 10 a.m. at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 1 pavilion. Family requests casual attire. Online condolences can be sent to www.homelanimemorialpark.com.

Teresa Solomon

Teresa “Teri” Lani Sachiko Solomon, 63, of Captain Cook, died Oct. 14, 2018 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu on May 11, 1955, she was an assistant manager for Par Pacific Hawaii (Hele) Service Stations. She was a member of the Waiaha Kumiai.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 8 at Kona Imin Center in Holualoa. Celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. The family requests casual attire.

Keslyn Tulensru

Keslyn Tulensru, 23, of Hilo, died Nov. 21, 2018 at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Nov. 23, 1994 in Kosrae, Federated States of Micronesia, she was a security guard for a private security company in Hawaii.

Friends may call on Friday, Dec. 7 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Visitation is from 5-6 p.m.; funeral service at 6 p.m. The family requests casual attire. A committal/burial service will be held at a later date in Kosrae, Federated States of Micronesia.

She is survived by mother, Kenye Tulensru of Micronesia; brothers, Emerson Tulensru, Robert Tulensru, John Tulensru of Reno, Nevada and Kesson Tulensru and PK Likiaksa Tulensru of Nevada; sisters, Kimie Jack and Kenlyn Palsis of Kosrae, Micronesia and Kenye Tulensru of Seattle, Washington; nine nephews and five nieces; numerous cousins, uncles and aunts.

Caroline Nobriga

Caroline Nobriga, 97 of Kailua-Kona, died Nov. 4, 2018 at Nakamura Hale. She was born on May 10, 1921 in Kona.

Private services were held.

Caroline was survived by daughters Teresa (Kevin Arakaki) Lucero of Kailua-Kona; son Allan (Jerry) Nobriga of Kailua-Kona; brother Frank Silva of Kailua-Kona; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

John Mercado

John Douglas Mercado, 59 of Keaau, died on Nov. 11, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 24, 1958, in San Francisco, California.

Services to be held on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 at Ballard Family Mortuary-Hilo. Viewing is at 10 a.m., service is at 11 a.m. Burial is 1:30 p.m. at Alae Cemetery.

He is survived by spouse Deborah L. Mercado of Keaau; mother Alice A. Mercado of Keaau; sons Preston J. (Shawntel K. Lawrence) Mercado of Keaau, John D. Mercado, Jr. of Keaau; daughters Candice C.
