Visitors trapped by rising tide in Pololu Valley rescued

POLOLU VALLEY — No injuries were reported after a man and woman were extricated by helicopter after becoming stranded due to rising tide near Pololu Valley in North Kohala this afternoon.

The call came into Hawaii County Fire Department sometime after 1 p.m. Rescue crews learned the 25-year-old man and 21-year-old woman got stuck on the rocky shoreline between Pololu and Honokane Nui valleys.

Chopper 1 was deployed and safely extricated them from the area. They were dropped off at the Pololu Valley lookout.
