Concordia sophomore libero Addison Enriques, a 2017 Kamehameha graduate, is back at home and will look to have a better performance, along with his teammates against Hawaii at the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Warrior Classic.
Last season, UH went 2-0 against the Eagles at the Stan Sheriff Center, and Enriques got in both matches but didn’t put up any stats.
On Friday, the two teams meet again. The match will be televised live at 7 p.m. on Spectrum Sports.
On Thursday, Enriques compiled six digs and an assist and played in all three sets in a season-opening loss to USC.
Last season, Enriques got in 26 matches, had two starts and played mostly as a defensive specialist. He collected 55 digs, nine assists and served an ace.
The Eagles finished 16-15, beating Grand Canyon in the first round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament in three sets.
Enriques recorded one dig while his brother Avery Enriques, the Antelopes libero, didn’t get in the match.
Concordia and Grand Canyon are part of the MPSF while UH is in its second year in the Big West, which also includes CSUN, where Emmett Enriques is a senior libero.
UH hosts the Matadors for a two-match series on March 15-16.
Basketball
Hilo grad Alexis Pana tallied 10 points, four rebounds and four assists Thursday as Central Washington beat Saint Martin’s 85-82, improving to 9-3 and 3-1 in the Great North Athletic Conference.
Last Saturday, the junior finished with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists a 66-58 win at Concordia, which is home to Honokaa graduate Kizzah Maltezo.
Maltezo, a junior guard, scored three points in nine minutes and is averaging 10.8 points, second-best on the season for the Division II Cavaliers (5-7).
Pana leads the Wildcats in scoring (15.0), assists (71) and steals (26).
• Former Konawaena stars Chanelle, Cherilyn and Celena Molina absorbed the kind of the blowout they used to regularly inflict on Hawaii teams last Sunday as Washington State fell at No. 5 Oregon, 98-58.
Chanelle Molina scored 14 points and is second on the Division I Cougars (6-8), averaging 15.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game with a team-leading 80 assists. Cherilyn Molina has played in all 14 games is averaging 1.8 points, while Celena has scored seven points in 12 games.
• Freshman Nalu Kahapea, a Kamehameha alum, is third on the Peninsula community college men’s team in scoring (10.7) and rebounding (4.8) for the Pirates (4-11) of Port Angeles, Washington.
• Freshman Jordyn Mantz, a Kamehameha grad, scored in double figures for the third time this season Wednesday with 10 points for Arizona Western College, which lost to Phoenix College 64-56.
In 16 games, Mantz is averaging 4.9 points per game for the Matadors (5-11) of the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference.
• Freshman Coco Shafer, a Hawaii Prep grad, has scored in four of the 12 games she’s played in for Lewis & Clark College, an NCAA Division III school in Portland, Ore.
