KAILUA-KONA — A high surf advisory remains posted for west-facing shores of the Big Island’s leeward coast through at least early Wednesday.
Honolulu-based National Weather Service forecasters said several northwest swells moving through the islands will keep surf at advisory levels along exposed west-facing shores through at least Tuesday night. Wave heights of 5 to 8 feet are forecast for the Kona Coast.
The advisory remains posted until at least 6 a.m. Wednesday. However, it could be extended as a reinforcing swell is expected to arrive on Tuesday, forecasters said.
Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Boaters should expect recreational surfers and body boarders utilizing harbor channels to access surfing areas.
