KAILUA-KONA — Motorists on Old Saddle Road should expect delays this week as the county resurfaces about five miles of the roadway first established during World War II.

The Hawaii County Department of Public Works Highway Maintenance Division will begin resurfacing the road from Aalii Road, near Waikii Ranch, to Mamalahoa Highway, also known as Highway 190, in South Kohala on Wednesday. The work is anticipated to last through Feb. 1.

The county said work is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather and construction conditions permitting.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and the county encourages the use of alternate routes. Alternating lane closures will be in effect and work will be done on one lane at a time. Travel in both directions will be provided.
