Free tax help available as of Feb. 5

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is an AARP Foundation program that helps low- to-moderate income taxpayers have more discretionary income for everyday essentials, such as food and housing by assisting with tax services and ensuring they receive applicable tax credits and deductions.

It has three sites offering service beginning Feb. 5 through April 11 to help those who qualify, especially those over 50 years old.

Hale Halawai, located at 75-5600 Alii Drive, is open on a walk-in basis Thursdays from 8 a.m. to noon beginning Feb. 7.

Yano Hall, located at 82-6156 Mamalahoa Highway in Captain Cook, is open on a walk-in basis Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon beginning Feb. 6.

Catholic Charities, located at 73-5618 Maiau St. Ste B201, Kamuna Center (mauka of Costco), is open on Tuesdays from noon to 4 p.m. beginning Feb. 5. For an appointment at the Catholic Charities site call 238-6486, walk-ins after 2 p.m.

Students earn dean’s list

Anna Moon of Kailua-Kona and Eloisa de Farias of Captain Cook have been named to Emerson College’s Dean’s List for the Fall 2018 semester. The requirement to make the Dean’s List is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher that semester.

Isaac Lee Rex of Captain Cook was named to the Iowa State University 2018 Dean’s List.

Students named to the Dean’s List must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work.
