Ryan “Baba” Ka’ipo o kalani AhLeen Fernandez, 39, of Hilo, died Jan. 10, 2019. Ryan was known for his big heart, aloha for others and witty sense of humor. He loved hunting, canoe paddling, diving and fishing.

Robert Manners
Robert “Bobbie” Albert Aukai Manners, 59, of Pahoa died Jan. 14, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a roofer, an avid diver and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by son, Kalani Keohuhu.

William Wagstaff
William Earle Wagstaff, 87, of Kailua-Kona, died Nov. 25, 2018. Born in San Francisco on May 27, 1931, he was a tree arborist and U.S. Army veteran.
A memorial service with military honors will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 8 at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in Kailua-Kona. The family requests casual attire.
He is survived by wife, Nancy; sons, Billy, Kekoa and Raymond; daughters, Katrina and Lisa; brother, Buddy; sister, Sybil; one nephew.

Kirah Kei Kuuipo Mendiola-Saiki, 4 months and 6 days, of Hilo, died Jan. 1, 2019 at Hilo Medical Center. She was born on Aug. 26, 2018, in Honolulu.

John Silva, Jr.
John “Smokey” Freitas Silva, Jr., 90, of Hawaiian Beaches died Jan. 13, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Hospice. Born in Paauilo, he was a retired Master Sergeant for the Hawaii Army National Guard, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Y.M.I., Court Mauna Kea #8854 AOF, American Legion Hilo Post #3, Big Island National Guard Retirees Association and a veteran of the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

He is survived by wife, Patricia C. Silva of Hawaiian Beaches; sons, Paul A. (Madeline D.) Silva of Keaau, John W. (Theresa E.) Silva of Hawaiian Beaches; brother, Clarence E. (Shirley) Silva of Sacramento, California; sister, Nellie A. Olga Brockway
Olga Brockway, 92, of Keaau, died Dec. 20, 2018 at the Hilo Medical Center. She was born in Wallingford, Conn. and was a homemaker and a member of the Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. Jan. 31 at the Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church for a mass, followed by burial at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 in Hilo.

George Yamamoto
George Hiroshi Yamamoto, 96, of Hilo died Nov. 28, 2018, at the Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired police officer with the County of Hawaii, real estate salesman, member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Central Komohana Kumiai, Hilo Exchange Club, Hilo Interpreters Club, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Private services were held. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts).
He is survived by wife, Shizuko Yamamoto of Hilo, son, Darrell Yamamoto of Hilo; daughter, Cynthia (Kazuyoshi) Takayama of Chiba, Japan; sisters, Teruko Fujioka of Honolulu, Kazue Hanabusa of Palo Alto, California; numerous nieces and nephews.

Philip Jocson
Philip John Jocson, Sr. 83, of Kailua-Kona, died January 21, 2019, at his residence. Born in Haiku, Maui on October 16, 1935, he was a tour bus driver for Graylines. He was a musician with “The Four of Us”, “Phil and Dave” and other musical groups. He was a property manager at the White Sands Village; a member of the Monday Senior Bowling League “Poi Bowlers”, Thursday Park and Recreation Bowling League, a coach of the Kealakehe High School bowling team and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 7 at The Hub Church (formerly Solid Rock Ministries) at 74-5467 Kaiwi Street at Kaahumanu Plaza in Kailua-Kona. Celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. The family requests casual attire.
He is survived by his companion, Angie Omaya of Kalaoa Kona; son, Philip Jocson Jr. of Hilo; daughters, Yvonne Keanaaina of Kailua-Kona, Jocelyn Kalilikane of Keauhou, Phyllis (John) Alapai of Kealakekua, Theresa (Juan) Villanueva of San Diego, Jennifer Jocson and Victoria Jocson of Seattle, WA; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Miriam Guerpo
Miriam Kaimi Guerpo, 84, of Kamuela, died on Jan. 12, 2019, at home. Born on Nov. 8, 1934 in Waipio Valley, she was a retired macadamia nut and coffee farms manager. She was also a former employee for Hawaiian Holiday Macadamia Nut Factory in Honokaa. She was a member of Ku’ikahi Baptist Church and former Sunday school teacher for Honokaa Baptist Church.
