Kathleen Furtado

Kathleen Dorothy Furtado, 66, of Keaau died on Jan. 22, 2019, at the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. She was born in Newport, R.I. and was an orchid enthusiast and “jack of all trades.”

Private services will be held.

She is survived by her daughter, Jasmine (Ben) Kaauamo of Keaau; brothers, John Patrick (Shelly Johnson) Murphy, Sr. of Ohio and Gregory Nametz of California; hanai daughter, Brandi-Lee Keeney of Kauai; hanai sons, Julian Moulds of Keaau, Darren John (Maka) Hauanio, Jr. of Oahu, Tony (Danny) Lapre of Kona and John (Pua) Furtado of Keaau; two sisters-in-law; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; an aunt, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Doris Gauslin

Mrs. Doris “Dorie” Eleanor Gauslin, 91, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 22, 2019, at Queen’s Medical Center. Born in Lindsay, Calif., on Dec. 24, 1927, she was a medical office manager, and after retirement along with husband Russ joined Youth With A Mission (YWAM) and had a marriage ministry. She was a member of Lifewater Church in Kealakekua.

A celebration of life was held Feb. 2 at the YWAM/University of the Nations Go Center Prayer Room.

She is survived by her husband, Russ Gauslin of Kailua-Kona; son, Tim (Jin Hee) Gauslin of Slidell, LA; daughter, Dawn Gauslin of Kailua-Kona; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Morris Mathews

Morris “Mo” Mathews, of Honokaa, died Jan. 27, 2019, at Hale Hoola Hamakua. Born in Los Angeles, and raised in Hermosa Beach, Calif., he was a teacher at Honokaa High School, held numerous positions at Honokaa Sugar Company and Hamakua Sugar Company and was the administrative assistant at the Law Office of Edith Kawai. He held many national and international swimming records.

A celebration of life will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers or koden, donations to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (https://www.cff.org/) would be welcomed.

He is survived by daughters, Gay (Lucky) Mathews of Honokaa, and Sally (Durwood) Ranton of Albany, Oregon; three granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elizabeth O’Neil

Elizabeth N. O’Neil, 75 of Hilo, died Jan. 24, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. She was born on Aug. 11, 1943, in Lanai City. She was an OR Assistant III at Hilo Medical Center.

Visitation and memorial service will be 10 a.m. at Feb. 8 at Ballard Family Mortuary Hilo. Burial to follow at 1 p.m. at Homelani Memorial Park.

She was survived by spouse, William O’Neil Sr. of Hilo; sons, David O’Neil of Hilo, William O’Neil Jr. of Kamuela, Justin O’Neil of Kapolei; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Rollin Frost

Rollin Lee Frost, 77, born Jan. 16, 1941, in Oakland, Calif., died at home in Kailua-Kona Jan. 1, 2019. Rollin was a safety and health engineer and a professional astrologer.

Services are to be held at a future date in Kailua-Kona at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery.

He is survived by sons, James Knowles of Corvallis, Ore., Christopher Frost of Honolulu, Matthew Frost of Koloa, and Michael Frost of Kailua-Kona; and three grandchildren.
