Join three book clubs this month at Kona Stories
All set for the New Year? Why not join a book club this year?
Kona Stories community bookstore offers many choices of book clubs. Groups meet monthly to discuss books of fiction, travel, memoir, classics or non-fiction. Book groups are free if books are purchased from Kona Stories or a $5 donation is appreciated. Bring a pupu or beverage to share and come prepared to discuss the following books. Kona Stories is located in the Keauhou Shopping Center in the courtyard shops on the KTA side.

On Feb. 12, Fiction Group is discussing ‘Milkman’ by Anna Burns
In an unnamed city, middle sister stands out for the wrong reasons. She reads while walking, for one. And she has been taking French night classes downtown. So when a local paramilitary known as the milkman begins pursuing her, she suddenly becomes “interesting,” the last thing she ever wanted to be. Despite middle sister’s attempts to avoid him—and to keep her mother from finding out about her maybe-boyfriend—rumors spread and the threat of violence lingers.

On Feb. 19, the Travel Book Group is discussing ‘Not Quite States of America’ by Doug Mack
Everyone knows that America is 50 states and…some other stuff. Scattered shards in the Pacific and the Caribbean, the not-quite states — American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands — and their four million people are often forgotten, even by most Americans. But they’re filled with American flags, U.S. post offices, and Little League baseball games. How did these territories come to be part of the United States? What are they like? And why aren’t they states?
