KAILUA-KONA — A brush fire on the slopes of Maunakea is 95-percent contained.

The fire, which broke out Tuesday morning, was estimated at about 200 acres, said Mike Donnelly, spokesman with the Pohakuloa Training Area, said Friday. State and federal firefighters spent the day continuing to clean up dozer fire breaks and ensure the “cold line,” which is the margin inside the fire break, of 20 feet is maintained and monitored.

The fire is located on the slopes of Mauna Kea, about 2 miles north of Daniel K. Inouye Highway and on the Kona side of Mauna Kea Access Road.
