Filomena Panem

Filomena Cabitac Panem, 91, of Pepeekeo, died Dec. 31, 2018, at the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Lahaina, she was a retired jewelry maker with the former Mings Jewelry.

Visitation 6-7 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. Celebration of life ceremony at 7 p.m. Private urn burial at a later date.

She is survived by sons, Oscar (Alicia) Panem and Salvador (Joy) Panem of Hilo; daughter, Felina (Mark) Sakumoto of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Emilia Cabitac of Honolulu and Caridad Cabitac of Washington; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Cynthia Kahsen

Cynthia Marie Kahsen (Hockey), 67, of Keaau, died Feb. 2, 2019, at home. Born April 4, 1951, in Roseland, Chicago, she retired in 2016 from Farm Supply Hilo.

Burial to be held at 9 a.m. Feb. 8 at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery II, 110 Laimana St.

She is survived by her daughters, Rachel Kahsen and Heather Kahsen; sons, Ernie Kahsen and Robbie (Gretchen) Kahsen; brother, David (Cheryl) Hockey; sister, Nancy Vargo; a sister-in-law; six grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sean Donnelly

Sean Patrick Donnelly, 62, of Waimea, died Feb. 3, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Pasadena, California, on March 19, 1956, he was a carpenter.

A celebration of life and scattering of ashes will be held at noon on Feb. 9, at the north end of Hapuna Beach. The family requests casual attire, and loose flowers are welcome. A donation in Sean’s name may be made to the Surfrider Foundation www.surfriderfoundation.org.

He is survived by son, Ryan (Jennifer) Donnelly of Volcano; granddaughter, Adelaide Donnelly; brothers, Paul (Linda) Donnelly and Kevin Donnelly of California; sister, Kathy (Brian) Kim of California; several nieces and nephews.

Alejo Imperio

Alejo Yabes Imperio, 83, of Paauilo, died Jan. 10, 2019, at home. He was born in Calanutian, Sinait, Ilocos Sur, the Philippines and was a cane truck unloader with the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and a member of the Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Visitation 8-9:30 a.m. Feb. 9 at the Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at the Homelani Memorial Park in Hilo. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Esperanza Imperio of Paauilo; sons, Robert (Marie) Imperio of Arizona and Shane (Lisa) Imperio of Seattle; daughter, Mildred (Brett) Reid of Alaska; sister, Magdalena (Lolito) Ramos of Waipahu; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Moses Heanu

Moses Enoka Heanu, 69, of Keaau, died Jan. 20, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired machinist.

A celebration of life gathering from sunrise to sunset April 6 at Kawaa Beach in Ka’u. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Debra Heanu of South Carolina; sons, Kenji (Valerie) Heanu of Texas and David Heanu of Ocean View; daughter, Frances (Michael Mendoza) Heanu of Ocean View; brothers, Albert (Kathy) Heanu of Waipahu and Richard Heanu of Honolulu; sister, Eleanor (Dan) Vaughn of Hilo; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews.

Felipe Valentin

Felipe “Phillip” Lorenzo Valentin, 82, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 23, 2019. He was born in Honolulu in 1936.

He is survived by brothers, Victor Valentin of Kailua-Kona, William Valentin of San Francisco, and Bumpy (HedyJo) Valentin of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Jeanette Inman of Las Vegas, Victoria Furrer of Kailua-Kona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kathleen Davis

Kathleen “Kate” Davis, 63, of Hilo, died Jan. 17, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Waialua, she was a tax preparer for many years with H&R Block.

She is survived by daughter, Elizabeth Crosson of New Mexico; brothers, Mike (Debbie) Crosson of Kalopa, Tom (Jan) Crosson of Washington, Terry (Mary Ann) Crosson of North Carolina and Matt Crosson of Hilo; sister, Mary (Carl) Fujio of Hilo; nieces and nephews.

Maria Kagawa

Maria “Mary” Kagawa, 92, of Mountain View, and formerly of Papaikou, died Jan. 14, 2019, at the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. She was born in Papaikou and was a homemaker.

Visitation 4-5 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. Funeral service at 5 p.m. Private committal services. Casual attire, flowers welcomed.

Miyo Oye

Miyo “Miko” Koyanagi Oye, 94, of Hilo and formerly of Kaneohe, died Jan. 24, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Hospice Facility. Born in Tokyo, she was a homemaker and member of the Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts).

Survived by daughters, Naomi Oye of California, Amy (Glenn) Miyao of Hilo; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Laurence Kidani

Laurence I. Kidani, 67, of Paauilo, died Jan. 2, 2019, in Kapaau. Born in Laupahoehoe, he was a retired transportation driver for the former Grey Line Hawaii and a member of the Paauilo Community Association.

Survived by brother, Myron (Julie) Kidani of Paauilo Mauka; sisters, Susan Uribe of Papaaloa, Carolyn (David) Fuertes of Kapaau; numerous nieces and nephews.

Juanita Finkenberg

Juanita Maria Finkenberg, 68, of Kailua-Kona, died Dec. 30, 2018, at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Born in Los Angeles on Feb. 16, 1950, she was a retired university professor, a dance teacher at West Hawaii Dance Academy and a choreographer at the Aloha Theatre.

A memorial at sea will be held at Keauhou Bay at 10 a.m. Feb. 16. A celebration of life will also be held later that afternoon from 2-5 p.m. at the Kona Outdoor Circle in Kailua-Kona. The family requests casual attire and loose flowers only for memorial at sea. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice of North Kona.

She is survived by husband, Mel Finkenberg of Kailua-Kona; son, Brian (Virginia) Dotson of Santa Clarita, Calif.; stepdaughter, Amber (Ryan) Esselstrom of Wewoka, Okla.; sisters, Sarah (Robin) De Levita of Amsterdam, Holland, Maureen (Artie) Colson of Bakersfield, Calif.; brother, Howard (Rachel) Miles of Camarillo, Calif.; six grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
