KAILUA-KONA — A 39-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries following a helicopter crash Thursday morning in Kukuihaele.
The Hawaii Fire Department responded at 7:05 a.m. Thursday to a report of a downed helicopter in the area of 48-5101 Honokaa Waipio Road. The crash reportedly occurred in open land about 200 yards from Highway 240, also known as Honokaa Waipio Road.
Upon arrival, rescue personnel found the man had already extricated himself and was ambulatory at the scene.
He was treated and transported in serious condition by medics to North Hawaii Community Hospital in Waimea, according to the department.
No additional information was immediately available. No other injuries were reported.
