Two doctors land on Big Island

Two doctors have joined Kaiser Permanente Hawaii facilities on Hawaii Island. They’re part of five additions to the Big Isle and Oahu and add to Kaiser Permanente’s staff of more than 600 health care providers in Hawaii’s largest medical practice, the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, which serves more than 255,000 members in Hawaii.

Carrie Colmenares Roys, MD, practices internal medicine and pediatrics at Kaiser Permanente Kona Medical Office.

She earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Colmenares Roys completed her internal medicine-pediatrics residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.

She previously practiced primary care, internal medicine and pediatrics at Samaritan Health Services in Albany and Corvallis, Oregon. She is board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics.

Erin Wilmer, MD, practices dermatology at Kaiser Permanente on Oahu and Hawaii Island locations.

She earned her medical degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, and completed her dermatology residency at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

Wilmer practiced dermatology at Kaiser Permanente Colorado in Denver before joining the Hawaii region. She is board certified in dermatology.

Earthjustice has new legal head

Isaac Moriwake has been named as managing attorney for Earthjustice’s Mid-Pacific Office in Honolulu, succeeding Paul Achitoff who recently retired.

“When I joined Earthjustice over 16 years ago, I would never have dreamed of one day leading our team in Hawaii,” said Moriwake in a press release. “So I can’t even say this is a ‘dream come true.’ It’s been one long wave, and I’m just happy to keep riding it.”

Much of Moriwake’s work has focused on water rights and reversing the history of stream flow diversions by sugar plantations in Hawaii. Moriwake worked on a series of cases reaffirming that water is a public trust for all and restoring flows to rivers and streams on behalf of local and Native Hawaiian communities.

Moriwake graduated from the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii and clerked for Justice Paula A. Nakayama of the Supreme Court of the State of Hawaii.
