Lawmakers Listen session Tuesday
The public is invited to join Rep. David A. Tarnas (North Kona, North Kohala, South Kohala) and members of the House of Representatives Leadership team for an open discussion about the 2019 Legislative session, relief funding for victims of the 2018 lava flow, and public policy on Tuesday at the Waimea School cafeteria.
Members of the community are invited to share their questions and concerns directly with Rep. Tarnas, Speaker of the House Scott K. Saiki, Vice-Speaker Mark Nakashima, and Majority Floor Leader Dee Morikawa.
“Lawmakers Listen” is an ongoing series of community town halls across the state with district representatives, members of the House leadership, and committee chairpersons. The purpose of the meetings is for legislators to hear the concerns of area residents and to discuss solutions.
Experience PTA Day offered
PTA is having “Experience PTA Day” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 18. This is an open house type event with many displays, demonstrations, and other fun attractions offered for young kids to grown adults. This is a free event and put on to inform and educate the community about PTA and enjoy talking with the troops or just looking at neat pieces of equipment, or even looking inside of the Quonset huts.

Student earns Naval summer program
Ethan Landt is a junior at Kanu o ka aina in Waimea. He has attended Kanu since kindergarten. He’s a local kid with dreams of going to the Naval Academy and becoming an officer in the U.S. Navy.
He was accepted to a Naval Academy summer program in June.
Landt has participated in many cultural activities including welcoming the Hokulea into New York Harbor. He’s a 4.0 student, did two years swimming for HPAs Academy Swim Club, and has completed six college classes through the Running Start Program with Hawaii Community College.
Parker School fundraisers set
Parker School will host its 14th annual Kahiau auction gala on March 9 at the Fairmont Orchid. All proceeds from this event support financial aid which impacts nearly 50 percent of students at Parker School.
Guests can enjoy cocktails, pupus, special silent auction, a three-course dinner, student performances, a live auction, and dancing at the event. Custom-created live auction items include: a catered day-cruise aboard the Sun Seeker motor yacht; ‘Taste of Hawaii Island’ dinner at the Water Falling Estate; San Francisco weekend getaway to see Hamilton; and a fishing package at El Capitan Lodge in Alaska.
Parker School will host an online auction March 1-11 featuring more than 75 gift certificates from island restaurants, activities, hotels, shops, and more.
