Benigno Lagat

Benigno “Papa” “Tata Ben” Lagat, 94, of Papaikou, died Jan. 25, 2019, at his residence. Born Feb. 13, 1924, in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for Hilo Coast Processing Company and he also was a member of the Hawaii Island Adult Care, Inc. and Immaculate Heart Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou.

Friends may call on March 7 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. Visitation from 6-9 p.m., wake service at 7 p.m. Friends may call on March 8 at Immaculate Heart Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. Visitation from 8:30-9:30 a.m.; celebration of Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire is requested. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park (Ilima Section)

He is survived by sons, Francis (LaDonna) Lagat of Wichita Falls, Texas, Maurice (Sandy) Lagat of Lorena, Texas and Paul (Leelynn) Lagat of Keaau; daughters, Inez (Mark) Johnson of Papaikou and Carla Lagat (Ely) Ramos of Honolulu; brother, Rosalio Lagat of Philippines; sister, Anecita Lagat of Philippines; four sisters in-law; one daughter-in-law; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Belinda Sherman

Belinda “Billie” Juliet Sherman 75, of Ocean View, died at home on Feb. 15, 2019. Born June 23, 1943, in Honolulu, she was a homemaker and volunteer for Hospice of Kona and Hawaii Special Olympics.

She is survived by husband, Duane Sherman of Ocean View; sons, Kapena (Sheila) Singson, Kawika Singson, daughter, Michelle Tomas, all of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Germaine Bucsit, Cynthia Shiraishi, Jocelyn (Frank) Nacino, Angie (Ed) Iberra of Oahu, Kimberley (Ed) Kato of Kauai; brother, Chris Caballero of Oahu; eight grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Evelyn Stanley-Lovett

Evelyn Hilda Kapischka Stanley-Lovett, 92, of Keaau, died Dec. 27, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 14, 1926, in Multnomah County, Ore., she was retired.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. March 6 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2 for a graveside urn committal service.

She is survived by children, Paul Stanley of Mountain View, Evelyn Freed of Prescott, Ariz., Diane Stanley of Hawaiian Acres, Dawn (Clifford Javellana) Paredes Javellana of Keaau; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren.

Richard Rogers

Captain Richard “Dick” Rogers, 82, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 14, 2019. Born in October of 1936 in Lubbock, Texas, he was the captain of the Puka Kai boat for many years.

Private services were held.

He is survived by his three sons, Richard (Tom) Rogers of Ocean View, Randy (Nancy) Rogers of Seattle, Captain Jeff (Maggie) Rogers of Kailua-Kona; and two granddaughters.
