Blue Sea Artisans featured artist is Stan Chraminski
The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery featured artist for the month of March is multimedia painter Stan Chraminski.
Chraminski is drawn to paint the scenery and open spaces in his environment and loves to paint scenes with lakes, rivers, and beaches. His move to Hawaii four years ago opened up his palette to new colors and scenes with endless ocean horizons. He paints most Fridays with the West Hawaii Plein Air group, visiting sites from Hookena to Hapuna, to create paintings of local scenes. His goal is to paint recognizable scenes that give a sense of place of the location.

Early Music Hawaii concert Sunday
Early Music Hawaii presents the concert “Venetian Voices &Brass” at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity on Lako Street.
Come listen to forgotten works by rarely heard Venetian composers from the 17th century recently unearthed by Linda Pearse, who will play bass sackbut (trombone) and is the director of the ensemble ¡Sacabuche! The early music Canadian ensemble of voices, sackbuts and strings will also be accompanied by three of Hawaii’s early music virtuosi singers to join them in a true international collaboration.

Betty Gerstner featured at Kailua Village Artists
The Kailua Village Artists featured artist for the month of March is watercolor, porcelain and silk painter Betty Gerstner.
Betty Gerstner has been a porcelain artist since the late 1970s. She has been teaching this art form since 2004. In 2000, shortly after moving to Hawaii, Gerstner began studying watercolor with some of the better known watercolor masters on the Big Island. She now divides her time between the mediums of porcelain, watercolor and silk painting. The beautiful scenery, tropical atmosphere and wonderful people are an inspiration to Gerstner’s artistic talents. Her diverse subjects range from tropical birds, fish and honu to the colorful flowers and points of interest of Hawaii. She also paints pet portraits by commission.
To meet the artist, Betty Gerstner will be working at the gallery from 5-7 p.m. Friday, the day of KVA’s reception, and March 29.

Learn to play bridge
The Kona Bridge Club is offering a second class in learning how to play duplicate bridge.
This intermediate level class focuses on how to bid when both pairs are competing for the privilege of naming the trump suit.
The first of six weekly classes meets from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Bridge Building at Makua Lani Christian Academy High School. The $25 course fee covers the cost of the textbook.

Kona Palisades Artists hosting a spring pop-up art gallery
The Kona Palisades Artists Group is hosting their first “Spring Pop-up Art Gallery” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the one-stop location in the Kona Palisades.
The Kona Palisades Artists Group’s resident artists from the Big Island of Hawaii include seven artists: Jennifer Azzarone – acrylic photo transfer, mixed media; Stefanie Culbertson – watercolor; Cynthia Hankins – photography; Bill Jaeger – stained glass; Kathleen Jaeger – mosaic, acrylic painting, pen and ink, painted glassware; Heather Mettler – sandblasted glass vessels; and Maya Sorum – watercolor, jewelry.
The One-Stop Spring Pop-Up Art Gallery will be located on Holoholo Street just a few hundred feet south of Kaiminani Drive in the Kona Palisades Estates subdivision. Keep a look out for the signs posted directing you from either the top or the bottom of Kaiminani Drive. The public will be able to meet the seven artists, spend the day with them, and learn about their unique work processes and inspirations for their art. This is an opportunity to purchase art directly from the artists.

Folsom returns to Volcano
After sellout concerts year after year at Volcano Art Center, Rebecca Folsom is returning for another intimate acoustic concert on at 6:30 p.m. March 16. Concert tickets are $25/$20 for VAC members.
Her music has been described as possessing the soulfulness of Etta James, the abandon of Janis Joplin, and a touch of folk songstress Joni Mitchell. An award-winning artist, she has performed on BBC radio and television, Nashville’s Bluebird, New York’s Bitterend and Red Rock’s Amphitheatre in Colorado.
She will also be offering “The Art of Vocal Freedom” workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 17. Cost for the workshop is $50 plus a $10 supply fee.

Another session of Wine &Watercolor at the VAC
Artist Nancy DeLucrezia will offer the “Wonderful World of Wine &Watercolor” workshop from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Volcano Art Center.
Class fee is $35/$30 for VAC members, plus a $17 supply fee. A still life photo will be provided for students to paint. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
