KAILUA-KONA — Gov. David Ige recently released funds for capital improvement projects at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole.

Sen. Lorraine Inouye (D-North Hawaii) announced Friday the release of just over $4 million to finance the construction of the south ramp and taxiway ramp improvements for general aviation operations and about $1.2 million for the construction of new T-Hangers at the airport.

Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport is the third busiest of Hawaii’s 15 airports. The airport is heavily used for inter-island, trans-Pacific flights to the U.S. Mainland, Canada and Japan. It is also an important stop for private aviation operations on Hawaii Island.
