Alan Akine

Alan Yoshio Akine, 74, of Hilo, died Feb. 11, 2019, at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu. Born Jan. 17, 1945, in Hilo, he was a retired businessman, U.S. Army Vietnam war veteran and Purple Heart recipient.

Private services were held.

He is survived by son, Mark Akine of Hilo; sister, Alice (Rodney) Takahashi of Kapaa, Kauai; grandson, Drew Akine; nieces and nephews.

Valelia Senituli

Valelia Senituli, 51, Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 12, 2019, at Maui Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 22, 1967, in Utulei, American Samoa, she was a quarantine officer for the Department of Agriculture in American Samoa, member of Kona United Methodist Church and secretary for the Samoan Women’s Ministry and Kona United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held at 8 a.m. March 9 at Kona United Methodist Church at 74-4960 Palani Road; funeral service at 9. Burial to follow in the Holualoa Catholic Cemetery. Casual attire requested; flowers welcome.

She is survived brothers, Paloma (Mona) Semau of Portland, Senturi Senturi Jr., of Pago Pago, American Samoa, Donny (Alice) Aveai of Kailua-Kona; sister, Gwendolyn (Joey) Ruiz of San Francisco; hanai sons, Senituri Aveai, Peter Aveai and Paloma Aveai of Kailua-Kona; hanai daughter, Donna Mase of American Samoa; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cecelia Luiz

Cecelia C. Luiz, 100, of Papaikou, died Feb. 26, 2019, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Aug. 14, 1918, in Papaikou, she was a Kalanianiole School cafeteria worker and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Young Women’s Institution, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Ladies Society of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Portuguese Catholic Club in Papaikou.

Friends may call 6-7 p.m. March 12 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel; wake service at 7. Friends may also call 8:30-10 a.m. March 13 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou; Mass at 10:30. Casual attire requested; flowers welcome. Burial at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 at noon.

She is survived by daughter, Janet (Albert) Araujo of Papaikou; son, Leonard (Debra) Luiz of Papaikou; daughter in-law, Kathleen Luiz of California; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jesus Aderinto

Jesus Castillo Aderinto, also known as Jay and Esos, 72, of Hilo died Feb. 13, 2019, at his residence. Born Sept. 23, 1946, in Pangasinan, Philippines, he was a retired tractor operator at Ka’u Agribusiness and retired employee of the Life Care Center of Hilo.

Private services held.

He is survived by daughter, Eliesa (James) Pacheco of Hilo; son, Peter (Connie) Aderinto of Kona; five grandchildren; brother, Felipe (Trini) Aderinto; half-brothers and sisters, Angie Camba, Eddie and Brenda Tacardon; hanai children, Mikey and Mary Camba; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marks Auwae

Marks K. Auwae, 68, of Hilo, died Jan. 8, 2019, at home. Born Feb. 26, 1950, in Hilo, he was employed at Puna Geothermal Venture and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Private services were held.

He is survived by daughter, Noelani (Sagan Bartlett) Flannagin; brothers, Henry (Jerry) Auwae, Allen (Riva) Auwae and Charles Kalani Auwae; sisters, Maile Mauhili, Henrietta (Johnny) Miranda, Mary Leialoha and Charlotte (Bono) Keo; brother-in-law, Norman Kema; grandchildren, Nickolaus and Leilani; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
