Suspect in Puna shooting charged with murder

HILO — Police have charged a 35-year-old Puna man for a fatal shooting that occurred early Monday morning in Fern Acres subdivision.

According to Capt. Greg Esteban of the Hilo Criminal Investigation Division, at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, detectives charged Ryan Frederick Davis with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony and first-degree terroristic threatening.

Davis is accused of shooting 38-year-old Joshua John Santos in the chest early Monday morning. Santos’ body was found lying on the driveway of a Plumeria Street residence.

Davis’ bail has been set at $310,000 and his initial court appearance is scheduled for this afternoon.
