Tatsuo Yoshida

Tatsuo Yoshida, 102, of Laupahoehoe, died Feb. 24, 2019, at Pohai Malama. Born July 12, 1916 in Laupahoehoe, he was a carpenter and plumber of the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and a member of Papaaloa Hongwanji Mission.

Funeral service will be held on April 6 at Ballard Family Mortuary-Hilo. Visitation 11 a.m., service at noon. Family requests no flowers.

Survived by spouse Wakako Yoshida; sons Gary Yoshida of Honolulu, Jerry Yoshida of Honolulu, Glenn (Joanne) Yoshida of California, Lloyd (Mary) Yoshida of California; daughters, Arlene Kawabata of Waimea, Lei (Anthony) Lum of Kailua; sister Yaeko Yoshimura of Honolulu; a sister-in-law; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mitsuo Tanaka

Mitsuo Tanaka, 93, of Wailea, died March 8, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 30, 1925, in Ninole, he was retired from Hilo Coast Processing Company and was a member of the Honomu Hongwanji Mission Kyodan and Koyukai and Wailea Kumiai.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

Survived by sons, Curtis (Lori) Tanaka of El Paso, Texas, Dennis (Michele) Tanaka of Waimea; brothers, Hiromi (Jo-Anne) Tanaka of Makawao, Isao (Hisako) Tanaka of Hilo; sisters, Shizue Ichinotsubo of Honomu, Kikuko Kuwahara of Hilo, Loretta (Hiroshi) Hayashida of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Bruno Medeiros

Bruno Stevens Medeiros, 61 of Hilo, died Feb. 25, 2019, at Legacy Hilo. Born Oct. 6, 1944, on Maui, he was a commercial fisherman.

Private services to be held.

Survived by spouse, Donna Marie (Limpahan) Medeiros; son Bruno S. (Tracy) Medeiros Jr. of Colorado; daughters Robbie Ann Medeiros of California, Michelle Medeiros of California, Virginia M.L. (Delbert) Grace of Hilo, Desiree M.I. (Gary) Gouveia Jr. of Wyoming, Erin M. Medeiros of Virginia; brother Alfred C. Medeiros of Maui; sisters Lucielle A. Medeiros of Maui, Mary (Alex) Vegas of Maui, Connie Kline; 25 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Julio Bolosan

Julio Deus Bolosan, 74, of Papaaloa, died March 10, 2019, at his residence. Born May 3, 1944, in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he worked at the former Hamakua Sugar Plantation Company as a heavy equipment operator and he also worked at Waikoloa Golf Course in the maintenance department. He was an avid fisherman, and a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe, Hawaii.

Friends may call on March 30 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe, visitation 8-9:30 a.m.; Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire and flowers are welcomed; burial at St. Anthony Catholic Church Cemetery.

Survived by wife, Leoncia “Lucy” Bolosan of Papaaloa; son, Henry Bolosan of Waikoloa; daughter, Jennifer B. (Sean) Giron of Kohala; four grandchildren; a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law.

Philip Freed

Philip Freed, 65, of Holualoa, died March 13, 2019 in Holualoa. Born March 19, 1953 in Lakewood, N.J., he worked as a veterinarian.

Survived by sister, Shelley (Henry) Kornman of Los Angeles; and fiancee, Juanita Pfeiffer of Holualoa.

Private services will be held.

Rodney Kamei

Rodney Kenji Kamei, 75 of Ka’u, died March 3, 2019. Born Dec. 21, 1943, in Pahala, he was a mechanic.

Services on March 28 at Ballard Family Mortuary Hilo. Visitation 9 a.m. Service 10 a.m.

Rodney is survived by brothers, Raymond (Felicing) Kamei of Pahala, Eugene (Edith) Kamei of Oahu, Clifford Kamei of Pahala; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
