John Gouveia

John Adam Gouveia, Jr., 78, of Hilo, died Feb. 25, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired construction laborer and a member of the Apostolic Faith Church.

Visitation 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 29 at Dodo Mortuary chapel. Funeral service at 1 p.m., followed by burial at the Alae Cemetery. Casual attire.

Survived by wife, Jeanette Gouveia of Hilo; sons, Frank “Bobo” (Tarsha) Gouveia of Mountain View and John Adam Gouveia of Waipahu; daughters, Maxine Kuulei (Kerine) Cooks of Oahu and Catherine Gouveia of Hilo; sister, Margaret Gaspar of Waianae; a sister-in-law; nine grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

James Bondaug Jr.

James “BJ” Roy Bondaug, Jr., 39, of Hilo, died Feb. 25, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a caretaker.

Memorial service 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., March 30, at Ballard Family Mortuary. Casual attire.

Survived by father, James Bondaug, Sr. of Hilo; sister, Monica Bondaug of Reno; brother, Scott (Bianca) Bondaug of Reno; hanai daughter, Mihaela Bondaug of Reno; hanai son, Kainoa Bondaug of Reno; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

David Ross

David Michael Ross, 78, of Kailua-Kona died March 3, 2019, at Kaiser Moanalua Medical Center. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. Oct. 27, 1940, he was a deacon at St. Michael’s Catholic Church and president of the Board of Directors of West Hawaii Habitat.

Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. March 30 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona. Mass at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity at P.O. Box 4619, Kailua-Kona, HI. 96745; and St. Michael’s Catholic Church at 75-5769 Alii Drive, Kailua-Kona, HI. 96740.

Survived by wife, Betty David Ross; son, Damon (Cylin) Ross; ex-wife, Jean (John) Womack; sister, Randy Ross; a grandson; two nieces; a grandnephew and godchildren.

Austin McThorn

Austin James McThorn, 85, of Kailua-Kona, died March 18, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Oakland, Calif., June 21, 1933, he was a grocery loss control manager.

No services will be held.

Survived by wife, Valda McThorn of Kailua-Kona; sons, Jeff (Araceli) McThorn of Bethel Island, Calif., and Tom (Alice) McThorn of Newark, Calif.; sisters, Lucille Comstock of Dublin, Calif., and Louise (Dean) Akey of Danville, Calif.; brother, Ronald (Diana) McThorn of California; four grandchildren.

Myrtle Chung

Myrtle Sachiko Chung, 77, of Hilo, died March 13, 2019, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born April 7, 1941, in Ahualoa, she was a homemaker and U.S. Army veteran.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. March 28, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo; celebration of life at 10 a.m.; urn burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2. Casual attire.

Survived by daughter, Siara (Marc Nishimura) Acdal; brother, Clifford (Jane) Matsumura; sister, Fay (David) Wung; a sister-in-law; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Janine Ahuna

Janine B. Ahuna, 41, of Ookala, died March 3, 2019, in Paauilo. Born Oct. 6, 1977, in Hilo, she worked for Paauilo Elementary and Intermediate School. She formerly worked for Paauilo Store, Camp Smith Travel, Pearl Harbor Travel, Waimea Travel, and Regal Travel.

Visitation 9-11 a.m. March 30 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Honokaa; memorial Mass at 11 a.m. Casual attire.

Survived by husband, John Ahuna, IV of Ookala; sons, Cole Kaeo Ahuna of Ookala and Wyatt John Ahuna of Ookala; parents, Phillip and Marlene Bugado of Paauilo; grandmother, Alice Deluz of Paauilo; brothers, Phillip (Myrna) Bugado, Jr. of Kauai and Rick (Wendy) Bugado of Keaau; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
