Nancy Young

Nancy Kazuko Young, 77, of Kailua, Oahu, died March 8, 2019, in Kailua. Born in Hamakua, she was retired as a secretary for the Hawaii State Department of Health.

Private services were held.

She is survived by children Deborah (Aaron) Ozaki of Ewa, Mark (Ann) Young of Ewa, Brad Young of Kailua, Oahu, and Deana (Lance) Teramoto of Holualoa; and five grandchildren.

Clement Kanehailua

Clement “Smokey” Kaopua Kanehailua died March 8, 2019, at age 85. Born Sept.14, 1933, in North Kohala, he worked as a cowboy and bulldozer operator at Kahua Ranch, served in the Hawaii National Guard and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Kanehailua; siblings, Bertha (Donald) Walls, DaveyAnn Hao, Dorothy (Benjamin) Badua, Gertrude Glory, Rocky (Melva) Perez, Earline (Theodore) Miller, John Pua Kanehailua, Lawrence Kiha (Janice) Kanehailua, Nona Kanehailua, Arlene (Marlon) Ramones; sons, Milton (Christine) Kanehailua, Raymond (Marilynn) Kanehailua, Scott (Francine) Higley, Clement Kanehailua Jr., James Wilson, Joseph Kanehailua; daughters, Ann (Timothy) Kanehailua-Coito, Deanna (Lafi) Tuiletufuga, Jeanette (Glenn) Goodrich; 26 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Julio Bolosan

Julio Deus Bolosan, 74, of Papaaloa, died March 10, 2019, at his residence. Born on May 3, 1944, in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he worked at the former Hamakua Sugar Plantation Company as a heavy equipment operator and he also worked at Waikoloa Golf Course in the maintenance department. He was an avid fisherman, and a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe.

Friends may call March 30 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe. Visitation from 8-9:30 a.m.; Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire and flowers are welcomed; burial at St. Anthony Catholic Church Cemetery.

He is survived by wife, Leoncia “Lucy” Bolosan of Papaaloa; son, Henry Bolosan of Waikoloa; daughter, Jennifer B. (Sean) Giron of Kohala; one sister-in-law; one brother in-law; four grandchildren.

SallyAnn DeMello

SallyAnn Cabral DeMello, 80, of Hilo, died March 3, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Wailuku, Maui, she was a retired hairdresser, cook, babysitter and a homemaker.

Private services held.

She is survived by, sons, Steven (Ramona) Araujo of Kurtistown, Tyler (Dana) Araujo of Florida; daughters, Charmaine Caneda of Hilo, Maureen Tarpley of Mountain View; 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Sumie Tanaka

Sumie Tanaka, 94, of Hakalau, died Feb. 21, 2019, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Papaikou, she was a homemaker and a member of the Honomu Hongwaji Mission.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden.

She is survived by husband, Tsutomu; daughters, Elaine, Gladys; son, Bert; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Midori Suzuki

Midori Suzuki, 89, of Hilo, died Feb. 9, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born Aug. 31, 1929, in Kapoho, she was retired from Hilo Products, Inc. and the former Midori’s Okazuya.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by daughter, Gwen (Robert) Shirai of Hilo; son, Keith (Amy) Suzuki of Hilo; brothers, Hiroshi (Chiyeko) Soga of Pearl City, Oahu, Sunao (Evelyn) Soga of Kailua, Oahu; one granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews.

Leo Johnson

Leo “Brown” Vern Johnson, 98, of Pahoa, died March 18, 2019, at home. Born March 3, 1921, in Cedar Creek Township, Mich., he was a retired lineman, U.S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor.

Services are pending.

He is survived by children, Lucylle Trujillo, Kenneth (Paula) Johnson, Nicholas Johnson; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Darryn Kamanu

Darryn Napuaikawekiukaina Kamanu, 53, of Olaa, died March 21, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Sept. 1, 1965, in Honolulu, he was self-employed.

Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. on March 31 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo; funeral service at 11 a.m.; cremation to follow. The family requests aloha attire.

He is survived by, wife, Dayna Niaulani Kamanu of Olaa; sons, Randen (Tiare) Kamanu of Kula, Maui and Lonowai Ikaia Kamanu of Olaa; daughters, Alohilani (William) Temple of Pahoa, Darnell Hanamaika’i of Kailua-Kona and Ka’ili’ula Mulec of Pahoa; sisters, Elouise (Frank) Mulec of Keaau, Gwen Keona Kamanu of Waimanalo, Oahu and Kaiulani (Lance) Kekahuna of Ainaloa; brothers, Edward (Mary) Kamanu of Mokuhulu, Stanley (Jeanie) Kamanu of Kaumana and Richard Kamanu of Nuuanu, Oahu; hanai sisters, Vivian Maunakea of Waimanalo, Oahu and Rae Hauanio of Pahoa; hanai brothers, Moki (Suzi) Paio of Kamuela and Les (Denise) Hauanio of Keaau; two grandsons; parents-in-law; grandmother-in-law; sister-in-law; brother-in-law; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
