Irene Visaya

Irene Rosita Visaya, 90, of Kamuela, died March 15, 2019, at The Queen’s Medical Center Oahu. Born Dec. 8, 1928, in Hilo, she did child care and was a homemaker.

She is survived by sons, Alan “Eddie Alan” (Paulette Ching) Familar of Hilo, Rudy (Jean) Familar; daughters Gaby Kunishige and Lisa Conn all of Kamuela; brothers Albert (Mary) Mata of Mililani, Oahu, and James “Kimo” (Donna) Mata of Bellflower, California; sister, Violet (Mata) Ramirez of Kailua-Kona; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Lucille Pinto

Lucille “Lucy” Kawahineihanauikapiolani Kuualoha Pinto, 82, of Kailua-Kona, died March 5, 2019, at her residence. Born Jan. 9, 1937, in Honolulu, she was a retired cook for Mauna Lani Bay Resort and Bungalows, a seamstress, quilter and member of Kona Church of the Nazarene.

Visitation is 10 a.m. Saturday, April, at Kona Church of the Nazarene at 75-5100 Palani Road. Service at 10:30 a.m. Luncheon to follow. The family requests no flowers. For information, call 443-7960.

She is survived by daughters, Arleen Shehadeh, Denise (Charles) Lopes all of Honolulu, Maile (Peter Sabado) of Paauilo; hanai son, Glen Morrison of Kailua-Kona; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Sylvia Kishimoto

Sylvia Haruko Kishimoto, 93, of Hilo, died Feb. 28, 2019, at her daughter’s home in Kailua, Oahu. Born Feb. 16, 1926, in Kaapahu, she was a retired waitress for the former Dick’s Coffee House, retired helper for Two Ladies Kitchen, RVSP volunteer at the Wailoa Center and member of Project Dana and Hui Okinawa.

Private services were held. The family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by sons, Randall (Wendy) Kishimoto and Donn (Evelyn) Kishimoto of Hilo; daughters, Karen (Frank) White of Pepeekeo, Phyllis (Derrick) Tsukayama of Kailua, Oahu, Laurie Kishimoto of Honolulu; brother, Robert Mineo (Beatrice) Nakamoto of Vancouver, Wash.; sister, Judy Nakamoto Mattos of Mililani, Oahu; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Raphael Tomas

Raphael “Ralph” Tomas, 73, of Hilo, died March 10, 2019, in Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired meat cutter for KTA Super Store and a veteran of the United States Army. He also coached boys’ basketball at Pahoa High School and girls’ basketball at Waiakea and Hilo High School.

Friends may call on Friday, April 5, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo. Visitation is 8-10 a.m.; followed by eulogy and military honors (Army National Guard); Mass over urn at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire and flowers will be omitted. Celebration of his life to follow at The Church of Holy Cross, 440 W. Lanikaula St., Hilo, at noon.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bernadette Tomas of Hilo; daughters, Marlo (Francis) Tau’a of Honolulu, Tanya (Greg) DeLuz of Paauilo and Jodi (JD) Penn of Hilo; grandsons, Palakiko, Luke, Jake, LJ, AJ, and MJ; brothers, Edward Tomas of Honolulu, Julio (Janet) Tomas of Mountain View and Jaime (Mary) Tomas of Hilo; sisters, Helen Latorre and Aggie (Eben) Maikui of Honolulu; seven sisters in-law; four brothers in-law; numerous nieces and nephews.
