King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel sold to undisclosed buyer

KAILUA-KONA — The Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel has sold to an undisclosed buyer, according to the firm that brokered the sale.

The 452-room hotel at Kamakahonu was sold by Pacifica Hotels, a California-headquartered company with 30 hotels in that state, Florida and Hawaii, including the Hilton Garden Inn Kauai Wailua Bay.

Holliday Fenoglio Fowler, L.P., which announced the sale Monday, said it couldn’t disclose the buyer or terms of the sale. Pacifica Hotels has not yet provided additional details about the transaction.

The sale only is for the leasehold interest in the property, including all buildings, parking and other facilities, said a spokesperson for Holliday Fenoglio Fowler. The fee interest in the land wasn’t sold and is under separate ownership.

Pacifica bought the hotel in 2007, according to news files, and in 2011 it was announced that the property would start carrying the Courtyard by Marriott brand.

The hotel’s history goes back nearly 60 years to when the original Hotel King Kamehameha was built, news files state. That building was razed in the early 1970s to make way for the current building.
