Oahu man charged with animal cruelty after police raid cockfighting event

KAILUA-KONA — A 30-year-old Oahu man was is facing animal cruelty charges for his alleged involvement in a cockfight event in Honokaa over the weekend.

Lylle Martinez Salcedo of Mililani, Oahu, was arrested after Hawaii Police Vice officers conducted a search of his rental vehicle and reportedly recovered two injured chickens, police said. Officers also seized nearly $8,000 cash from Salcedo. The money will be recovered for forfeiture.

Just after 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, officers executed a search warrant at an event on a remote location off of Highway 240 in Honokaa.

Salcedo was subsequently charged with two counts of second-degree cruelty to animals and was released on his own recognizance.
