Aquino Villena

Aquino “Joe” “Joaquin” Valdez Villena, 65, of Keaau, died March 15, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Aug. 12, 1953, in Tomana, Rosales, Pangasinan, Philippines, he served in the U.S. Navy and retired from Hawaii Army National Guard as a Specialist E4. He also was a construction laborer and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call on April 4 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Visitation is from 6-9 p.m.; wake service at 7 p.m. Friends may call again on April 5 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Visitation is from 10-11 a.m.; prayer service at 11 a.m. The family requests casual attire; flowers and lei are welcomed. Burial at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.

He is survived by wife, Darlene Villena of Keaau; son, Jonathan (Sherry) Villena of Hilo; daughters, Jolene (Jeffrey) Aurelio of Hilo, Cheryl-lynn (Brandon Kalani) Villena of Pahoa and Megan (Jordan) Kaholoa’a of Keaau; brother, Danie (Linda) Villena of Hilo; sister, Anafe (Wilson) Bernisto of Keaau, Vicky (Orlino) Valiente of Waikoloa, Nellie (Derek Higa) Villena and Elma (Ben) Bruno of Kohala, Ester (John) Acorda of Paauilo; hanai sister, Bob (Ingrid) Clark of Kohala; aunt, Conchita Quison of Kohala; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sonja Kamber

Sonja Rita Kamber, 91, of South Kohala, died Jan. 5, 2019, at her residence. Born Jan. 31, 1927, in Leipzig, Germany, she was a retired registered nurse, author of “Sonja’s Story,” a swimmer and world traveler.

Private service held. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to North Hawaii Hospice, 65-1328 Kawaihae Road, Kamuela, Hawaii, 96743.

She is survived by sons, Andre Kamber, Peter Kamber both of Washington; several grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Eiko Yamaoka

Eiko Yamaoka, 90, of Hilo, died Feb. 25, 2019, at her residence in Hilo. Born in Papaaloa, she was a retired clerical worker. She was also a member of the Taishoji Soto Mission in Hilo.

Private services held. The family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary offerings).

She is survived by brother, Masato (Yukiko) Masaki of Hilo; sister, Eleanor Sachiko Kokubun of Honolulu; one sister-in-law; a nephew, a niece and numerous cousins.

Betty Ann Fernandez

Betty Ann Liliu Saragosa Fernandez, 81, of Ookala, died at her residence on March 3, 2019. She was born in Hilo on April 8, 1937, and was a retired housekeeper.

Visitation will be held at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo on April 6 from 9-10 a.m.; prayer service will begin at 10 a.m. Lunch will follow at the mortuary. Burial will follow lunch at the Ookala Catholic Cemetery in Ookala. Casual attire is requested.

She is survived by son, Randall “Randy” Fernandez of Papaaloa; daughters, Junedale Matsuda of Volcano, Carolyn (Alfonso “Bradda”) Martin, Jr. of Kalaheo, Kauai and Desiree (Clyde) Kaluahine of Hanamaulu, Kauai; brothers, Charles Saragosa of Hilo and Albert (Lynelle) Toralba of Milolii; sisters, Margie Carter of Kalaheo, Evon (Cory) Seyer of Nevada, Molly (Roy) McRight of Kona and Mona (Delbert) Costa of Laupahoehoe; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins; preceded in death by husband, Harold Fernandez and one great-granddaughter.

Agnes Pacheco

Agnes “Vovo” Pacheco, 94, of Hilo, died March 12, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired housekeeper, a babysitter with the Kilauea Military Camp (KMC) and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. April 3 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. Wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation also 9-10 a.m. April 4 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., followed by burial at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire is requested.

She is survived by her daughter, Claudette Revilla of Pahoa; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

William Ferreira

William “Billy” Ferreira, 91, of Honokaa, died March 13, 2019, at home. Born on Dec. 29, 1927, in Honokaa, he was a retiree of the Hamakua Sugar Company and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Albert Rodrigues

Albert Rodrigues, 91, of Paauilo, died March 17, 2019, in Paauilo. Born in Hilo in July of 1927, he was a contractor and partner in R&O Inc. construction company, a member of the Blazing Saddles Trail Riding Club, and an Army veteran.

Alexandria Machado

Alexandria Violet Fontes Machado, 68, of Volcano, died March 17, 2019, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired manager for Roberts Hawaii and a volunteer facility administrator at the Cooper Center in Volcano.

A celebration of her life will take place at noon on April 7 at the Cooper Center in Volcano. Casual attire is requested.

She is survived by husband, Frederick Machado of Volcano; son, Alden Machado of Waikele; daughter, Candace (Thomas) Escritor of Hilo; brother, Ernest (Cheryl) Fontes of Pearl City; caregiver, Henrylene Kaapana of Volcano; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Jeffrey Dickerson

Jeffrey James Dickerson, 62, of Ocean View, died March 22, 2019, in Ocean View. Born in Seattle, he worked as a groundskeeper at the Royal Kona Resort.

Joshua Santos

Joshua John Santos 38, of Hawaii, died March 18, 2019, in Hawaii. Born in Hilo, he was a father, son and brother and will be forever remembered.

A service will be held 9 a.m. April 5 at the Living Waters Assembly of God Church at 89 Maikai Street in Hilo.

He is survived by son, Josiah Santos of Hawaii; stepfather, Raymond Castro of Hawaii; six siblings.

Myrna Ordonez

Myrna “Merlyn” Dacquel Ordonez, 63, of Paauilo, died Feb. 23, 2019, at Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. She was born on Nov. 3, 1955, in Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. She was a retired housekeeping supervisor for Hilton Waikoloa Village and also worked for Hapuna Prince Hotel. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Honokaa Iloco Congregation.

A memorial service will be held from 2-4 p.m. April 5 at the Honokaa Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses; dinner to follow at the North Hawaii Education &Research Center in Honokaa. Scattering of her ashes will be on April 6. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Amado Ordonez of Paauilo; daughters, Amalyn (Chad) Raymond of Kamuela and Myrnalyn (Kevin) Anderson of Paauilo; mother, Florentina Dacquel of Haina, Honokaa; sisters, Lolita (Gideon) Abad of Honokaa, Virginia Agustin Honokaa, Corinne (Efren) Gonzales of Honokaa and Imelda (Romeo) Justo of Honokaa; brother, Cristome (Susan) Dacquel of Paauilo; five grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sylvia Kishimoto

Sylvia Haruko Kishimoto, 93, of Hilo, died Feb. 28, 2019, at her daughter’s home in Kailua, Oahu. Born Feb. 16, 1926, in Kaapahu, she was a retired waitress for the former Dick’s Coffee House, retired helper for Two Ladies Kitchen, RVSP volunteer at the Wailoa Center and member of Project Dana and Hui Okinawa.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by sons, Randall (Wendy) Kishimoto and Donn (Evelyn) Kishimoto of Hilo; daughters, Karen (Frank) White of Pepeekeo, Phyllis (Derrick) Tsukayama of Kailua, Oahu, Laurie Kishimoto of Honolulu; brother, Robert Mineo (Beatrice) Nakamoto of Vancouver, Wash.; sister, Judy Nakamoto Mattos of Mililani, Oahu; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Josita Pasion

Josita Macugay Pasion, 88, of Pahoa, died Feb. 28, 2019, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born on May 14, 1930, in Banna Bugasi, Ilocos Norte, Philippines; she was a field hand for SL Papaya Farm in Puna and she also was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Pahoa.

Stanley Cosare, Sr.

Stanley Cosare, Sr., 66, of Paauilo, died March 25, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on October 10, 1952, in Honokaa, he was a truck driver for the state and County of Hawaii and a taro farmer in Waipio Valley. He also was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa.

Friends may call on April 7 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Visitation from 6-7 p.m.; funeral service at 7 p.m. Casual attire is requested. Cremation at Dodo Mortuary Crematory.
