Virginia Small, a member of the Hawaii Loa chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, has been awarded first prize in the NSDAR American Heritage 2019 National Art Contest for the fine arts/oil painting category, and the Evelyn Cole Peters Award, for the contest’s top winner.

The painting is of Big Island actor Richard Hershberger in his costumed role as Dr. Thomas A. Jaggar at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The award will be presented June 25 in Washington, D.C.

Small is a resident of Holualoa, and has art on display at the Holualoa Gallery, as well as an upcoming one-woman show at Peaberry and Galette in Keauhou May 1-31.
