The mother of BJ Penn’s two children alleges the former UFC champion verbally abused her in the presence of the couple’s two daughters and her mother, sexually abused her and threatened to kill her family, according to court documents obtained by a mixed martial arts website.
According to the report Wednesday by MMA Junkie, Penn’s estranged partner, Shaelyn Uaiwa, wrote in a temporary restraining order petition she didn’t report Penn, whose legal name is Jaydee Penn, to the police “because of his name, reputation, the control he has had over my life and I was scared.”
“I feel fearful for my safety and my childrens (sic) life, and for the influence he has over my children,” Uaiwa wrote, according to the website. Uaiwa also reportedly accused Penn of drug addiction and wrote he “uses his training camps to try and stay sober.”
According to court records, Hilo Family Court Judge Darien Ching Nagata granted Uaiwa, who was in a decade-long relationship with Penn, a temporary restraining order and order for protection in October 2018. The order of protection was extended in February until Oct. 8, 2021.
In the initial order, Penn was required to stay 100 feet away from Uaiwa and to not contact her, but the order was later amended to allow supervised visits with their daughters and to contact Uaiwa through their respective attorneys.
The 40-year-old Penn, who lives in Hilo, hasn’t been charged with any criminal offenses in connection with Uaiwa’s allegations.
Penn, who won UFC title belts in two divisions was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2015.
He came out of retirement in 2017 and has lost his last six fights. He’s scheduled for face Clay Guida at UFC 237 in Rio de Janeiro on May 11.
