KAILUA-KONA — ADA pedestrian push buttons will be installed this week on traffic signal poles at the intersection of Kuakini Highway and Hualalai Road in Kailua-Kona.

Work is slated 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, according to the Hawaii County Department of Public Works.

The new push buttons will ping a sound or can be programmed to talk and pedestrian countdown modules will emit the “hand” and “man” signals.

There will be intermittent lane closures and travel in all directions through the work area will be provided. Road work signs will be posted in the work zone and special duty police officers will facilitate traffic movement and assist pedestrians crossing in the crosswalk. Motorists are advised to expect delays and encouraged to use alternate routes.
