Mahalo, because it takes a village
As this school year starts winding down I thought it was the perfect time to give our heartfelt thanks to all those who donated or volunteered to help the keiki who live at Ulu Wini. With over 200 children at any given time residing here, we like to offer as much encouragement and assistance with their education and also help to expand their interests.
It really takes outside support to deliver this type of program and with the kokua of our volunteers and donors, we make this happen: from the dinners provided by Daylight Mind throughout the year for our Feed &Read Program to Mrs. Shauna Yusko, who provides hundreds of free new books so our kids have books in their homes to read with their parents.
To the many tutors from St. Michaels, Makua Lani High School, Hawaii Tech Academy and the Kealakehes along with YWAM students, who come four to five days a week throughout the school year to help joyfully, we thank you! And to those who have donated school supplies and backpacks and clothing and food, you fill the hearts of our families.
Kona United Methodist Church started our school year with backpacks and supplies for all our kids and other community members kept them replenished. Through a generous donation from two amazing women, we were able to add music to our after-school program this year. You are appreciated. This year, we were also able to offer weekend food through a grant from our County Council. No kid was hungry at Ulu Wini with their help!
I know there are many more who support us regularly and I would love to name them all but we are limited. So please know that we deeply appreciate everyone who has a heart for the families at Ulu Wini.

Obstruction is obvious
The long-awaited Mueller investigation is finally done. I find it extremely disturbing that the administration that was being investigated gets to censure the report before its release.
This is criminal intent in your face. There is no reason our elected Congress gets nothing but the entire report. Otherwise, I believe this maneuver is called obstruction of justice. This administration isn’t just a swamp, it’s our newest black hole. It’s a new low.
