Kimberly June releases new track
Just KJ, also known as Kimberly June, has released a new single, “Stoked.”
The new track was released April 19 and the music video, shot on the Big Island, will be released Friday.
The music video was shot on the Big Island and features some of KJ’s favorite spots: Mahaiula Beach, Kealakekua, downtown Kailua-Kona and Lava Lava Beach Club in Waikoloa.

Just KJ is a Kona-based folk-pop artist full of juicy stories to tell. With an unconventional upbringing in the Dominican Republic and five years of the Nashville music industry under her belt, she has acquired quite a unique and deep outlook on life.
Her single, “Love and be Loved,” was a finalist winner at the 2018 Hawaii Songwriter Festival, and is available on iTunes. Between Hawaii and Los Angeles, she is currently working on her album “Just KJ,” featuring all-new songs written.

Dennis Lee Foster’s ‘Baby’s Riding on a Falling Star’ music video premiere
Bestselling writer, poet and photographer Dennis Lee Foster’s new music video of “Baby’s Riding on a Falling Star” will debut at the Made in Hawaii Film Festival in Hilo on June 1. The short feature is based on a song from his album “The Angel From the Underground,” performed by his band, the pop-rock jazz fusion group Kellian and Company. The music video was shot in Kailua-Kona.
All the songs on the album were written, composed, directed, and produced by Foster, the author of over 65 published books, including two bestsellers. Fifteen of his books have been translated into seven different languages. His paintings, drawings, and sculptures have been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries. He has also served stints as a lead guitarist, radio station disk jockey, corporate and commercial film producer, and exhibiting artist whose works have appeared at the New York Museum of Modern Art, the Phoenix Art Museum, and Occidental College Art Gallery, among numerous other venues.

New exhibit opens at Niaulani Sculpture Garden
The community is invited to the newest Niaulani Sculpture Garden exhibition entitled “Interplay: Art Science,” opening from 3-5 p.m. Sunday.
This juried exhibit features works by Clayton Amemiya, Henry Bianchini, EMSY, Stephen Freedman, Elizabeth Miller, Michael Shewmaker, Erin Skelton and Jonathan Sudler. The sculptures stimulate contemplation and dialog of aesthetic and educational value to people of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
Set adjacent to an old-growth native rainforest atop Kilauea Volcano, the garden provides meandering pathways, endemic plants and is a special place for gathering community members.
In addition to the exhibit, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts has loaned two sculptures by Fred Roster and Jean Bruce to Volcano Art Center, adding to the venue’s three dimensional art offerings.

Abstract painting offered at Volcano Art Center
Join Darcy Gray for an abstract painting workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at Volcano Art Center Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village. This class is for those with a basic painting background who would like to explore the techniques of abstract painting.
Darcy shares her passion for abstract painting in this introductory class which will help students learn how to take risks and gain more confidence in their own way of painting. Students will develop sketches into final art pieces, play with perspective and focus, work with colors, then push themselves to paint intuitively and at different scales. Sketch paper will be provided in class for warm up exercises and roughing out paintings.
The class will paint on 18×24 heavy watercolor paper which has been gessoed. Darcy will lead students through fun drills throughout the class, and students will be able to take home all of their work.
Basic acrylics paints, pencils, brushes, other tools will be provided in class, but students can bring their own if they choose. Class fee is $90/$85 VAC members plus a $20 supply fee for five sheets of 300 pound watercolor paper, pre-gessoed. Advance registration is required and this workshop will be limited to eight adults.
