KAILUA-KONA — A pair of BIIF sophomore standouts have been selected to participate in the MLB/USA Softball Breakthrough Series.

Kamehameha-Hawaii’s Kawehi Ili and Konawaena’s Jayla Medeiros will head to Kansas City, Mo. on Memorial Day weekend to be among 60 participants in the event.

According to a release from MLB.com, the event is a special amateur development camp designed for high school softball players.

The players will receive instruction from former Team USA stars, including Jennie Finch and Natasha Watley. The trip will also include: a trip to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, a career chat at Kauffman Stadium — home of the Kansas City Royals — and a ticket to the Royals vs. New York Yankees game.
