Karl Kawahara

Karl Komao Kawahara, 83, of Hilo, died May 12, 2019, at a private care home in Hilo. He was born in Holualoa, Kona, on March 30, 1936, and was retired from the State of Hawaii Department of Education as a social studies teacher at Hilo High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran and member of Church of the Holy Cross, Hawaii State Teachers Association – Retired (HSTA-R), Fukushima Kenjin Kai and charter member of the Lehua Jaycees.

Visitation will be held at Church of The Holy Cross, 440 W. Lanikaula St., in Hilo on June 17, 2-4 p.m. Celebration of Life Service begins at 4 p.m. Aloha attire is requested. No flowers.

Survived by daughter, Kim (Ben) Raymond of Hilo; son, Keith (Linda) Kawahara of Honolulu; sister, Tomie Ahn of Kalaoa, Kona; four grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Marjorie Germano

Marjorie M. Germano, 74, of Hilo, died May 19, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honokaa, she was a retired packer with the former Pacific Tropical Produce.

Visitation 5-6 p.m. June 14 at Dodo Mortuary. Funeral services at 6 p.m., followed by cremation. Casual attire; no flowers.

Survived by husband, Harold J. Germano, Sr. of Hilo; sons, Earl (Donna) De Silva of Kalopa and Lopaka (Nicole) De Silva of Honokaa; daughters, Mayleen Martin of Hilo, Natalie (Stephan) Young of Las Vegas, Jean (Nicholas) Garcia of Mountain View and Jane (Niem Tran) Ancheta of Keaau; step-sons, Harold (Michelle) Germano, Jr. of Kona, Ollie (Vickie) Germano and Tom Germano of Mountain View; brothers, Morris Ancheta of North Carolina, Anthony (Benita) Ancheta of Kamuela and Johnny (Geraldine) Ancheta of Paauhau; sisters, Alice Panui of Pearl City and Luana Kauwe of Hilo; 41 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
