KAILUA-KONA — A Kailua-Kona man has been indicted on felony assault charges stemming from a reported stabbing June 6 in Kalaoa.

Jared Dunn, 39, was charged with two counts second-degree assault in the indictment handed by a Kona Grand Jury this week and filed Thursday in 3rd Circuit Court.

Dunn remains out of custody after being granted release on his own recognizance during an initial appearance June 10 in Kona District Court before Judge Cynthia Tai. Prior to that hearing, he was being held on $10,000 bail set by police when he was charged June 7 with two counts of second-degree assault in connection with the alleged stabbing of two men at a Kalaoa home.

A preliminary hearing, during which the state must prove it has probable cause to support the charges, that had been scheduled for July 8 is now moot as the case was indicted in Circuit Court, where it will be adjudicated.

Dunn was charged by police on June 7 with two counts second-degree assault following a reported stabbing around 9:15 p.m. the night prior on Ahililani Street in Kalaoa. Upon arrival, police found two Kailua-Kona men with injuries to their head and face consistent with a stabbing.

The men, ages 25 and 62, were taken to Kona Community Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Second-degree assault is punishable by up to five years imprisonment, according to Hawaii Revised Statutes.
