KAILUA-KONA — Big Island police are asking for the public’s help locating a 21-year-old man wanted in connection with a reported shooting early Friday in Waimea.

Police are looking for Jerome Kahoalii-Heath of Kailua-Kona for questioning in connection with the attempted murder reported shortly before 1 a.m. Friday.

Kahoalii-Heath is described as being 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

The public is advised against approaching Kahoalii-Heath who police consider armed and dangerous.

Early Friday, South Kohala patrol officers responded to a 911 call seeking assistance for a woman who may have been shot in the South Kohala town.

Police investigating the incident say the reported shooting occurred on Mana Road, and the victim and her companion left the area, driving in the direction of Waimea. Officers located the victim, a 34-year-old woman, who was accompanied by a 35-year-old man, in a parking lot off of Mamalahoa Highway in Waimea.

Police said the woman suffered wounds to her upper body that appeared to be consistent with the type of injury that could be caused by shotgun pellets. She was treated for her injuries at an undisclosed location.

Police have declined to provide any additional details, including the extent of injuries or the woman’s condition.

The man with her was uninjured.

Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigation Section are continuing the investigation.
