Clemente Juan

Clemente Cubangbang Juan, 80, of Hawi, died June 22, 2019, at his residence. Born in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Nov. 23, 1938, he was a landscaper for Puna Certified, a chicken, vegetable and rice farmer, maintenance man for Hawaii Cleaning Company, carpenter, fisherman and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi.

Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. July 19 at the family’s residence at 55-401 Hawi Road; 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will be held at 8 a.m. July 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi; Mass at 10 a.m. followed by burial in Hawi County Cemetery. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

He is survived by wife, Carlina Juan of Hawi; sons, Domingo (Lorna) Juan of Philippines and Leandro (Marilyn) Juan of Honolulu; daughters, Aida Juan of Hawi and Valentina (Dominador) Rico of Hawi; brother, Carmelito (Jesusa) Juan of Halaula; sister, Anastacia (Rufino) Eda of Philippines; brother-in-law, Frisco Tacuboy of Philippines; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Steven Sizar

Steven Alan Sizar, 59, of Pahoa, died June 18, 2019. Born in May of 1959 in Kentucky, he was a member of New Hope East Hawaii.

Private services held.

He is survived by wife, Janet Sizar; daughters, Alysha Sizar and Amethyst Sizar; and step-daughter Marie Figueroa.

Rosa Jeppesen

Rosa “Rosy” Buol Jeppesen, 93, of Keaau, died July 6, 2019, at her residence. She was born in Davos, Switzerland, she was a homemaker.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by daughter, Isabelle (Steven) Graves of Keaau; son, Steven (Adele) Jeppesen of California; brother, Werner (Helga) Buol of Chicago; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nephews.

Saeko Sato

Saeko M. Sato, 100, of Kaila-Kona, died June 16, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born in South Kona on Sept. 27, 1919, she was a retired cafeteria baker at Konawaena High School and a member of Keei Kumiai, Shin Wa Kai, Kumamoto Kenjin Kai, Hiroshima Kenjin Kai and Keei Buddhist Church.

Private services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by sons, Stanley Sato of Orange County, California, and Norman (Karen) Sato of Pearl City, Oahu; daughter, Shirley Sato of Captain Cook; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Margarita Camero

Margarita “Garit” Arce Camero, 98, of Pepeekeo, died June 29, 2019, at Life Care Center of Hilo. She was born in Cawayan, Ilocos Sur, the Philippines and was a seamstress with the former Evelyn Margolis and Kamehameha Garments and was a jewelry setter at Mings, member and a former Eucharistic Minister of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and former member of the Pepeekeo Filipino Association.

Visitation 8:30-9:30 a.m. July 17 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Papaikou. Mass will be held at 10 a.m., followed by burial at the Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima section. Casual attire.

She is survived by sons, Jaime (Claire) Camero of Pepeekeo, Rudy (Bernie) Camero of Hilo, Franklin (Nancy) Camero of Las Vegas, and John (Chris Gomera-Nicolas) Camero of Mountain View; daughter, Judy (Howard) Shimabukuro of Hilo; daughter-in-law, Rose Camero of Pepeekeo; sister, Adelina Quirit of Pepeekeo; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; numerous hanai grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Joyal Arnold

Joyal Helen Arnold, 87, of Ka‘u and formerly of Kaimuki, died July 5, 2019, at her residence. Born June 12, 1932, she retired as a corporate executive secretary for Dillingham Corporation.

A graveside service and inurnment will be held 2 p.m. July 18 at Oahu Cemetery.

She is survived by daughter, Kaohi Mokuhalii of Ka‘u; son Charles Arnold of Honolulu; sister, Phyllis Staab of Washington; sister-in-law, Bobbie Stone of Kaimuki; five grandchildren; a hanai granddaughter; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; numerous nieces; nephews and cousins.

Guy Hauanio

Guy Kamealoha Hauanio, 52, of Pahoa, died July 3, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 23, 1966, in Honolulu, he was a security guard for the Department of Education at Keaau High School and Middle School, Hilo High School and Keonepoko Elemetery School; he also worked for Waiakea High School as a custodian and multiple security firms such as Securita/ Reynolds, Jan Guards; was a baseball coach for Hawaiian Beaches Bull Dogs; a member of the Hawaii Army National Guard and a current member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Keaau Congregation.

Friends may call July 20 at the Uncle Robert’s Awa Bar and Farmers Market at 12-5038 Kapoho Beach Road, Pahoa. Visitation from 9-11 a.m.; services and Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. Casual attire; flowers and lei are welcomed. Cremation to follow at Dodo Mortuary Crematory.

Leticia Thompson

Leticia Torrechiva De Jesus Thompson, 73, of Kealakekua, died June 23, 2019, at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Born Feb. 1, 1946, in Tacloban, Philippines, she was a housewife.

Graveside services will be held at noon July 15 at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in Kailua-Kona. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

She is survived by husband, Charles Thompson Jr. of Kealakekua; son, Anthony (Danielle) Thompson of Kealakekua; daughters, Josephine Thompson of Kihe, Maui, Leticia (Raul) Rodriguez of San Bernadino, California and Geraldine Johnston of Kalua-Kona; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jaxon James

Jaxon Kai James, 43, of Kailua-Kona, died July 9, 2019, at his residence. Born July 2, 1976, in Haena, Kauai, he was a finish carpenter for GM Construction, a former software engineer and a surfer.

Austin Mereno, of Kailua-Kona, died July 10, 2019, in Kealakekua. Born June 10, 1948, in Los Angeles, he worked as a land surveyor for the County of Los Angeles.

He is survived by partner, Gloria Palacio; son, Erik (Jessica) Mereno of Norco, California; sisters, Sandra (Mark) Beck of Ontario, California; Susanna (Daniel Swana) Mereno of Upland, California; and two grandchildren Rylee and Troy.

Minerva Kanuha

Minerva “Aunty Minnie” Wehilani Kanuha, 66, of Honokaa, died June 18, 2019, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Hoolehua, Molokai, she was an educational assistant at Waimea Elementary School and a member of the New Beginnings Assembly of God in Waimea.

Friends may call 9-10 a.m. July 20 at the New Beginnings Assembly of God in Waimea; funeral service at 10. Burial to follow at Kukaiau County Cemetery in Paauilo.

She is survived by sisters, Doreen (Raymond) Kaluhimoku of Waimea, Charlotte (Greg) Dela Cerna of Kona, Harriet (Alfred) Martines of Paauilo, Faith (Charles) Alameida of Waimea, Millicent Himalaya of Waimea, Mildred Moiha of Waimaea; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

James Adams

James Dale Kauhanehonakawailani Kaohu Adams, 88, of Waikoloa, died July 3, 2019, at his residence. Born March 1, 1931 in Waikele, Oahu, he was a retired installation repair supervisor for Hawaiian Telephone Company, member of Waikoloa Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.

Visitation 10:30 a.m. July 21 at Waikoloa Baptist Church. Service at 11:00 a.m. Lunch to follow.

Brian Charles Barton of Kailua-Kona, died on July 11, 2019, in Kealakekua. He was born Dec. 11, 1954 in Honolulu.
