Local students make dean’s list

Kaiulani Fernandez and Braden Kojima, of Waimea; Kawai Baculpo, of Kailua-Kona; and Kili Kunitomo, of Kealakekua, have been named to the dean’s list at Pacific University in Oregon for the 2019 spring semester. To qualify for the dean’s list at Pacific, a student must achieve a term GPA of 3.70 and complete 12 or more graded hours.

Avery graduates Gonzaga

Aspen Avery, of Kailua-Kona, graduated May 12 from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. Avery graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Sociology.

Wal-Mart Kona to donate during reopening today

The Kona Walmart will be holding a grand reopening event today after completing a remodel, starting at 8 a.m. As part of the celebration, the store will be presenting grants to six local nonprofits: American Red Cross, $1,500; Hawaii Artist Collaboration, $1,500; Hospice of Kona, $1,000; Kealakehe High School Athletic Department, $2,000; Kona Athletic Club, $1,000 and Special Olympics West Hawaii, $1,000.
