Kealakehe Elemetary open house Aug. 1

Kealakehe Elementary School is hosting a “Meet and Greet” open house 5-6 p.m. Aug. 1. Parents of students in first through fifth grades are invited to bring in their child’s school supplies and meet their teacher. Class lists will be posted on Aug. 1 in front of the library prior to Open House.

This open house takes the place of Back to School Night. The first day of school for first through fifth grades is Aug. 5. Kindergarten parents will be notified by mail regarding the start of school.

Kailua-Kona students make OSU honor roll

Several students from the Kailua-Kona area made the scholastic honor roll at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore., for the spring 2019 term. Students earned straight-A (4.0). to B-plus (3.5) or better to make the listing, while carrying at least 12 graded hours of course work.

Students on the Honor Roll included:

Straight-A average: Christine R. Ushijima, human development and family science; Thomas H. Geulin, junior, economics.

3.5 or Better: Kaila Alontaga, junior, biohealth sciences; Juliann M. Gnile, senior, fisheries and wildlife sciences; Ryan P. Miller, junior, civil engineering; Joseph R. Stewart, sophomore, biology; Andrew W. Strickland, senior, psychology; Jaylene A. Vegas, senior, political science.

Kobayashi graduates Pacific University

Mai Kobayashi, of Waikoloa, graduated from Pacific University in Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in Japanese.
