Leonard Mock Chew

Leonard “Lenny Boy” Kawaihoohie Mock Chew, 46, of Honaunau, died July 15, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Feb. 24, 1973, in Kealakekua, he was a construction laborer and member of KHPC Horseshoe Club, Laborers International Union of North America, Local 368 and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Friends may call 7-9:30 a.m. Aug. 10 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Kona Stake Center on Kalani Street in Kailua-Kona; 10 a.m. funeral service; burial at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. Luncheon and fellowship to follow at the Old Kona Airport’s Makaeo Pavilion. Family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

He is survived by wife, Shirlence Mock Chew of Honaunau; daughters, Leialoha Mock Chew and Kilihea Mock Chew of Honaunau; son, Kealoha Mock Chew of Honaunau; hanai son, Owen Mock Chew of Holualoa; hanai daughter, Kaleonani Haleamau of Kalaoa; mother, Florence Mock Chew of Holualoa; brothers, Rudy Mock Chew of Holualoa, Sonny (Honey) Medeiros of Captain Cook, Dallas (Kuulei) Medeiros of Waimea; sisters, Colette Mock Chew and Tito (Harley) Leslie of Honaunau, Tiare DeAguaire of Captain Cook, Bernadette Haleamau of Kalaoa; parents-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Anita Galacgac

Anita Galacgac, 98, of Keaau, died July 15, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices in Hilo. Born Nov. 14, 1920, in Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was employed for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Farm and she also was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call 8:30-9:30 a.m. Aug. 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. Mass. Casual attire; burial at Alae Cemetery (Section H).

She is survived by son, Johnny Galacgac of Keaau; numerous nieces and nephews.

Carole Laa

Carole “Aunty Carole” Sui Lan Miyamoto Kahele Laa, 76, of Keaau, died July 7, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retiree of Hilo Wal-Mart, and formerly employed with Kona Wal-Mart, Minit Stop, Circle K, Gas Express, Dollar Car Rental at Kona Airport and Duty Free Shoppers and was also a Kupuna of Alu Like Ke Ola Pono No Na Kupuna.

Visitation will be 4-5 p.m. Aug. 4 at Dodo Mortuary chapel. Funeral services at 5 p.m. Friends may also call at noon Aug. 5 at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 for a graveside committal service. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Donald Laa Sr. of Keaau; sons, Recardo Oreta of Vacaville, Calif., and Randall (Heather) Oreta of Mountain View; daughters, Sheldyn Camacho, of Milolii, Renee (Mark Sr.) Olivera of Mountain View and Roxanne (Bernie Sr.) Llanes of Holualoa; hanai daughters, Miranda (George) Coronel of Kailua-Kona and Kathleen Lono of Honolulu; brothers, Jerry (Lani Pacheco) Miyamoto of Glenwood and Nelson (Deena) Kahele of Captain Cook; sisters, Daisy Chiartano of Sacramento, Calif., and Jeanette Evans of China Grove, N.C.; 43 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter.

Barbara Stremski

Barbara Jean Kaililauokekoa Stremski, 86, of Hilo, died June 16, 2019, at home. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired medical insurance authorization clerk with Hilo Medical Center, food and beverage manager with the former Naniloa Surf Hotel, a union organizer, member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, HGEA Retirees, ILWU Pensioners Club, and the Hilo Hospital Retirees Club.

Visitation will be 5:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at Dodo Mortuary chapel. Prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be 9-10 a.m. Aug. 3 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. A graveside committal service at 10:30 a.m. will follow at the Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Donald Stremski of Hilo; daughters, Holly (Gary) Abulon of Mililani, Hope (Peter Woods) Stremski of Torrance, Calif. and Donnie J. Stremski-Borero of Keaau; hanai sons, Dominic (Aulani) Uyetake Jr. of Naalehu, Dean Uyetake of Hilo and Michael Mata Jr. of Gardena, Calif.; brother, James (Donna) Mata of California; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
