Employee issues close more transfer stations again

The Kealakehe Transfer Station Green Waste site closed at 8 a.m. today. The green waste site should reopen as regularly scheduled tomorrow.

Until 4:15 p.m. this afternoon, the public can take their green waste to the West Hawaii Organics Facility (aka Puuanahulu landfill in Waikoloa), which is open six days a week (closed on Sundays), from 7 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

The Pahoa Transfer Station Green Waste site also closed today. The green waste site should reopen as regularly scheduled tomorrow. Until 4:00 p.m. today, the public can take their residential green waste to the Keaau Transfer Station.

The Waiea Transfer Station closed today and will reopen at 6 a.m. Saturday. Until 6 p.m. today, the public can take their household generated waste to the Keauhou Transfer Station, which is open seven days a week until 6 p.m.

The division has been plagued with staffing issues recently, prompting several unexpected closures when employees call in sick or miss work.
