Jose Calica
Jose “Joe” Calica, 77, of Mountain View, died July 20, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on June 30, 1942, in Olaa, he was a retired first sergeant in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He also was a Junior ROTC and ROTC instructor at Hilo High School, and member of the VFW and American Legion.
Friends may call 8:30-10:30 a.m. Aug. 15 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 10:30 a.m. funeral service. Casual attire; flowers and lei are welcomed. Burial is at noon with military honors at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.

Tonio Solomon Bernard Thomas, 18, of Pahoa, died July 21, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Palm Beach, Fla., he was an employee of Sky High Inflatables.
Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Onekahakaha Beach Park large pavilion. Memorial services at 1 p.m. Casual attire; flowers and lei welcome.

Angela “Angie” Leimomi Hernandez, 76, of Keaau, died June 30, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. She was born in Honolulu and was a homemaker.
Visitation will be 4-5 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m., followed by cremation. Casual attire.
She is survived by daughters, Angeline L. Arita of Nevada, Jill N. (Ted) Lyau of Kamuela and Shyanne (Valu) Mathias-Valu of Keaau; sons, Randall (Renee) Arita of Mililani, Ivanhoe (Lorna) Mathias of Lahaina and Stirling (Colleen Thomas) Mathias of Puna; stepsons, Wendell (Noe) Kalua and Gaylord Mathias of Las Vegas; sister, Roonie Ortiz of Waianae; 31 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Gladys Wilson
Gladys Haleaka Wilson, 93, of Naalehu died June 6, 2019, at the Ka’u Hospital. Born in Kaalaiki, Ka’u, she was a laundry helper with the former Kalakaua Kleaners.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 10 at Naalehu Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Memorial service at noon, followed by urn committal at the Naalehu Community Cemetery. Casual attire, no flowers.
She is survived by hanai daughter, Cynthia M. (Michael) Tonini of Naalehu; brothers, Frank (Rita) Kahakua of Ewa Beach, James (Nora) Kahakua of Honolulu and Herbert (Karen) Kahakua of Ocean View; sister, Elizabeth (Chris) Asuncion of Kona and Eleanor Kepner of Honolulu; brother-in-law; sister-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews.
