Yaeko Miyashiro

Yaeko Miyashiro, 85, of Pepeekeo, died July 19, 2019, at home. Born May 19, 1934, in Hakalau, she was retired from the former Miko Meat Company and a member of Hilo Coast United Church of Christ.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Aug. 17 at Hilo Coast United Church of Christ in Honomu for an 11 a.m. service. The family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Clayton Miyashiro, Byron Miyashiro, Craig (Ruth) Miyashiro and Randal Miyashiro of Pepeekeo, Tracy (Laura Tobosa) Miyashiro of Hilo, Darrell (Yvette Hata) Miyashiro of Kurtistown; brother, Robert (Tomiko) Kitano of Honolulu; sister, Sakae Higa of Honolulu; grandson, Kypp Miyashiro; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ann Shiroma

Ann Midori Shiroma, 88, of Pahoa, died April 7, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 25, 1930, in Waikane, Oahu, she was retired from the former Verizon Hawaii.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Aug. 17 at Oahu Mortuary in Honolulu for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Joseph Oguma of Honolulu, Blaine Oguma of Hilo; sisters, Rosie Tsuru Fukumoto of Honolulu, Yoshino Uyehara of California; brothers, Walter Zukeran and George Zukeran of Kaneohe, Oahu, Allen Sueji Shiroma of California; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

David Medeiros

David Lewis Medeiros, 57, of Hilo, died Aug. 6, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center.

Survived by caregiver and friend, Lynn Smith; three daughters, Jennifer (Kapono Ammasi) Medeiros of Honolulu, Selena (Wesly DeMotta) Medeiros of Pepeekeo, and Christina (Jay Moses) Case of Waimea; a brother, William Medeiros Jr of Keaau; two sisters, Charlotte (George lll) Hall of Colorado Springs and Beryl (Arthur Sr) Sampaga of Hilo; 12 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Glenn Shiroma

Glenn Seiko Shiroma, 68, of Hilo, died July 27, 2019, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born May 28, 1951, in Hilo, he was a retired real estate property manager.

Private services were held. Family request no monetary gifts or flowers.

Survived by wife, Faye Shiroma of Hilo; sons, Grant Shiroma of Honolulu and Ryan Shiroma of Hilo; brother, Norman (Karen) Shiroma of Kaneohe, Oahu; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Benjamin Vocal

Benjamin “Uncle Lolong” John Vocal, 87, Haina, Honokaa, died Aug. 2, 2019, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born June 6, 1932, in O‘okala, he was a retired crane operator for the former Hamakua Plantation and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe.

Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m., Aug. 23, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Honokaa; Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9-10 a.m. Aug. 24 at the church; service at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at Ookala Catholic Cemetery. Aloha attire.

Survived by spouse, Paulette Vocal of Haina, Honokaa; son, Benjamin Joseph (Marada Terry) Vocal of Hilo; hanai granddaughter, Heaven; sister, Maria Batulanon of O‘okala; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ellsworth Fujimoto

Ellsworth Masato Fujimoto, 71, of Hilo, died July 21, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo June 1, 1948, he was retired from the Boy Scouts of America Aloha Council as a Senior District Executive. He was a member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Private services were held. No flowers. No Koden (monetary offerings).

Survived by wife, Gail Fujimoto of Hilo; son, Elston (Jessica) Fujimoto of Honolulu; a mother-in-law; an uncle, aunt, nephews, nieces and cousins.
