Albert Uyeno

Albert Shigeichi Uyeno, 93, of Hilo died May 31, 2019, at a private care home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired science teacher at Waiakea Intermediate School, member of the Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission and a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Private services held.

He is survived by sister, Nancy Natsuko Nishimura of Honolulu; two nieces.

Takeo Ono

Takeo Ono, 95, of Hilo, died July 20, 2019, at Pohai Malama. Born in Honolulu, he was a civilian interpreter for the U.S. Army, truck driver for Yamada &Sons, and a custodian for Hilo High School, and member of Ahualani Kumiai and Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Private memorial services held. No koden or flowers.

He is survived by spouse, Sueko Ono of Hilo; sons, Richard (Cheryline) Ono of Kealakekua, Kenneth (Tricia Kezeli) Ono of Captain Cook; daughter, Janice (John) Kaniho of Hilo; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thomas Anakalea

Thomas Kealohaonalani Anakalea, 57, of Hilo, died July 11, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a fuel attendant with the Safeway gas station.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Aug. 17 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. Funeral services at 11 a.m., followed by cremation. Casual attire.

He is survived by mother, Oinah Anakalea of Hilo; brother, Leonard (Jaime) Anakalea of Wailuku; two nephews and numerous cousins.

Lynette Valdez

Lynette Lou Kawaikauikamakaokaopua Akiona Valdez, 68, of Hilo, died July 23, 2019. Born in Hilo, she was a retired service rep with the former GTE-Hawaiian Tel, the co-owner of Hilo Andagi and was also a member of the Ainaola Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Aug. 16 at the Hilo Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Franklin Valdez of Hilo; daughter, Lynda Mauliola Valdez of Salt Lake City; brother, Lon Ian (Sally) Akiona of Bluffdale, Utah; hanai daughter, Waiahuli Akau of Hilo; hanai sons, Bryson Alameda Anzai and Chris Alameda Anzai of Hilo; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Coreen Mulkey

Coreen Lillouise Poookalani Mulkey, 70, of Mountain View, died July 30, 2019. Born July 13, 1949, in Honolulu, she was a foster parent for Catholic Charities, an eligibility worker for Department of Human Services Med-Quest Division; and a security for JCPenney and Liberty House/Macy’s.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. Aug. 21 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Mountain View; Mass at 10 a.m. Memorial and celebration of life will be held Nov. 11. Condolences may be sent to Mulkey Ohana, PO Box 721, Kurtistown, HI 96760.

She is survived by husband, John Mulkey, of Mountain View; sons, Alfred Correia Jr., Donovan Correia, and Michael Mulkey, of Mountain View; daughters, Michele Correia of Mountain View, and Michelle (Clint) Uyehara of Waimea; brother, Charles (Lynette) Pao Jr., of Mililani; sisters, Charmaine (Eugene) Caster, of Fort Bragg, Claudia (Louis) Fuata, of Rancho Santa Margarita, and Claire (William) Arhelger of Hawaiian Beaches; three sisters-in-law; five grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Eugene Gold

Eugene “Gene” Allan Gold, 90, of Hilo, died Aug. 5, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Philadelphia, he was a retired probation supervisor for the City of Philadelphia, U.S. Army veteran, and an active member of the acting community in Hilo.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 19 at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima section.

He is survived by daughters, Susan (Teva) Var of Hilo and Sharon (Matthew) Boswell of Laupahoehoe; sister, Joan Engleman of Florida; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Kaaka Lowe

Kaaka Jack Lowe, 89, of Volcano, died July 22, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Feb. 6, 1930, in West Palm Beach, Fla., he was a retired teletype operator and a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran.

Visitation will be held 3-4 p.m. Aug. 17 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. Funeral service at 4 p.m.; cremation to follow. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Violet Lowe; stepson, Paul Moniz; brother, Tom Lowe; seven grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
