League of Women Voters to talk energy and food Sept. 13

District 9 Hawaii County Councilman Tim Richards will be speaking at the League of Women Voters meeting in Kailua-Kona at Hawaii Community College Palamanui on Sept. 13.

Current, former, and prospective members as well as other interested persons are invited to come learn more about Richards’ vision for utilizing our abundant potential for energy generation while increasing food self-reliance. His talk, entitled “Agriculture, Water, Energy: A Food Nexus,” will be held in Panini Classroom 126.

The LWV meeting starts with registration at 9:30 a.m. Lunch ($15 payable at the door, with options to be submitted by Sept. 2) and a Board meeting follow Richards’ talk.

KCH Auxiliary meeting Aug. 19

Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary will hold its monthly board meeting at 12:30 p.m., Aug. 19, at KCH in conference room 1. All members and any persons interested in becoming a volunteer are invited to attend.

Stop by the Friday morning bake sale or the gift shop, both part of the Auxiliary’s fundraising efforts for nursing scholarships.
