Joseph Siobal Sr.

Joseph Siobal Sr., 85, of Hilo, died July 29, 2019, at Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home. Born on July 20, 1934, in Hilo, he was a plumber.

Friends may call at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at Ballard Family Mortuary Hilo, 570 Kinoole St. in Hilo, for a 6:30 p.m. service.

Joseph Siboal is survived by son, Joseph (Paula) Siobal Jr. of Waimanalo; daughter, Jeri Jean (Kenward Dupont) Hoffeld of Pahoa; seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Benjamin Rapoza

Benjamin “Benji” Soares Rapoza, 91, of Pahoa, died Aug. 11, 2019, at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. He was born in Hilo and was a retired truck driver with the former Hilo Coast Processing Co., a member of the Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Pu’uwaiopio Kupuna Softball Team and was a veteran of the US Army.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Aug. 23 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. A prayer service will be held at 11 a.m., followed by burial at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire, no flowers.

He is survived by companion, June Kropfelder of Pahoa; son, Richard “Rico” (Vickie Teves) Rapoza, Sr. of Hilo; hanai daughter, Dianne (Troy) Mokuhali’I of Pahoa; brother, Raymond (Mona) Rapoza of Honolulu; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Stanceford Kaina

Stanceford Melvin Kaina, 63, of Hilo, died on July 23, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born on Maui, he was a Falsetto Musician &Entertainer for “Na Leo Nahenahe O Pohai Kealoha.”

Friends may call 8:30-10:30 a.m. Aug. 24 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Hilo Stake Center, 1373 Kilauea Ave. Funeral service begins at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. Casual attire.

He is survived by son, Stanceford (Dodi) Kaina, Jr. of Maui; companion, Piilani Rodrigues of Hilo; brothers, Paul (Cynthia) Anthony Kaina, Sr. of Maui, Henry (Sony) Kaina, III of Maui; sister, Francine Campbell of Maui; two grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sable-Marie Keffer-Young

Sable-Marie Kahakulani Mei-Lunn Ka’ulula’au Keffer-Young, 24, of Hilo, died July 20, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a case manager for HOPE Services Hawaii and a member of New Hope Hilo, Halau Hula O Kahikilaulani, Halau Na Lei Hiwahiwa O Kuualoha and Halau Keikiali’i of San Francisco.

Friends may call 3:30-5 p.m. Aug. 24 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. A celebration for her life will begin at 5 p.m. Casual attire.

She is survived by parents, Robert Keffer and Sammye Young of Hilo; maternal grandmother, Mary Agnes Kila of Hilo; hanai mother, Marcia Lynn Ganir of Hilo; hanai-sisters, Taquila Sambrana of Keaau, Gabrielle Mehau of Hilo; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

Curtis Tanaka

Curtis Junji Tanaka, 61, of Hilo, died July 30, 2019, at his residence. Born in Kealakekua, he was an electrician working supervisor for the County of Hawaii Department of Environmental Management Wastewater Division, member of Hilo Meishoin Mission and its Senior YBA, Tsukikage Odorikai and Yamaguchi Kenjinkai.

Friends may call 3:30-5 p.m. Aug. 24 at Hilo Meishoin Mission. Memorial service begins at 5 p.m. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Tammy Hiyoto Tanaka of Hilo; daughter, Cortnie Tanaka of Hilo; mother, Nancy Satsuko Tanaka of Honalo; brother, Stephen (Paulette Baniaga) Tanaka of Honalo; sister, Marsha (Ron) Norvell of Arkansas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

James Bowman, Jr.

James Pierre Bowman, Jr., 74, of Kohala, died Aug. 16, 2019, at home, Born on Oct. 15, 1944, in Kohala, he was a retired harbor maintenance worker for State of Hawaii, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawi and a member of the Kohala Boy Scouts.

Friends may call from 8-10 a.m. Aug. 23 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawi. Funeral service begins at 10 a.m. Casual attire and flowers are welcomed, burial at the Hawi County Cemetery.

He is survived by wife, Maydean Mahi Bowman of Kohala; sons, James (Ana Lisa) Bowman of Las Vegas, Moffett (Kehau) Bowman of Waimea, Nicolas (Amy) Bowman of Kailua-Kona, and Joshua (Anneka) Bowman of Kawaihae; sisters, Barbara (Dennis) Green of Mililani, Maile (Olin) Kane of Durango, Colo., and Lani Bowman of Kohala; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Beatrice Pao

Beatrice “Bea” Arruda Pao, 87, of Pahoa, died Aug. 14, 2019, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born on Aug. 19, 1931, in Honolulu, she was a retired general manager for Hawaiian Shores Community Association, loved playing cards, gardening, music and animals.

A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 22 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. Burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Aloha attire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hawaii Island Humane Society, 74-5225 Queen Kaahumanu Highway Kailua-Kona, HI 96740.

She is survived by daughters, Charmaine (Eugene) Caster of Ft. Bragg, Calif. and Claire (William, Sr.) Arhelger of Hawaiian Beaches; brother, Allen Gomes of Waianae, Oahu; sister, Henrietta White of Hawaiian Shores; one brother-in-law; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
